Sensored or Sensorless?

sensored
Today, there's not a huge difference in a good sensorless (vxl or castle) and a sensored system. I run a vxl, an ezrun with a novatech motor and also a speedpassion GT 2.0 with Novak ss motor, so 2 sensorless and 1 sensored. I also run Nimh.
The only difference I see is when the batteries get too low, the ez-run sensorless starts to cog.
That being said, if there's no specific reason to pick sensorless....go with sensored.
Sensored means the esc always knows where the rotor is because of the hall effect sensor so it can apply 100% power at all times. Sensorless ESC's only know the position of the rotor when it's spinning. The sensorless motor is less efficient at start up.

Reedy Motors good or bad?
I have the B4.1 brushless rtr with the reedy 3300kv motor and the sc450-bl speed controller. This is the stock set-up and wanted to leave it that way. I wanted to get a faster motor but didn't really want to buy a new speed controller. The reedy 4900kv is the one i would get if i do. I know you can't take them apart so what do you guys think? Thanks.

should be fine
I run the ezrun and it's a great esc. I agree about the money. My point was if everything else is equal, go sensorless, but if you're taking $$ into account and buying new, go ezrun.
To address the OP. If you have a SC450 and a 3300 already and are just upgrading the motor, I'd first try gearing and see where your heat goes. You could gear up the 3300 to run as fast as the 4900, you just have to be aware of your heat. It's actually why you're seeing a lot of 8th scale electrics going much lower KV. If heat is an issue, then go with the 4900. You don't need to buy a whole new set up, that's for sure. PS the SC450 is 3900 max on 3s, but you're fine on 2S though, I think it has a 6100KV limit on 2S.
PS there are some new esc's similar to the ez-runs that can now run sensored and sensorless and they're cheap. Haven't bought one yet but I'm tempted.

Shipping is a little expensive but you can get hobbywing xerun systems cheaper through this site than you can get the speedo through most places.

I had the b4.1 rtr brushless and I thought it was great, that was until I bought another buggy and put a sensored lrp sxx and orion vortex in it, then I couldn't drive the reedy sensorless system anymore. So my advice would be definitely don't try a high end sensorless system and you won't know what you are missing
