how do you know what kv??

Really good information here. I too am a nitro guy and am glad I stumbled into this thread.
My new Losi 8IGHTe 2.0 race roller came with the Excelorin 1700Kv motor (they used to come with the 2100Kv), so it appears as though I should be looking at 5s rather than 4s. Good to know. Either that or I could use 4s and go up in pinion size but then it appears as though I'll lose efficiency/durability.

so if 2050 is my motor choice...
what are the best overall battery choices?
3s, 4s, or 5s ?
im guessing that the cells make up the power?
like a 5000mah 5s will be dramatically more powerful than a 5000mah 3s?
is 3 or 4 cell sufficient for a tekin or castle 2050 system?

You need to do KV*voltage, that should between 28000 and 35000. That's the optimal RPM range.
You need to chose a lipo that machtes your motor KV.

or play with the ESC a little and really whip up on some Nitro buggies.
You can't go wrong w/ the 2050, check out StormerHobbies they had a pretty nice deal when I got mine. PLus they are for sure the new case's!!!
As for the rpm I find that keeping the rpm between 22,000 and 28,000 has better runtimes, cooler temp's. It has plenty of juice, and very smooth.

Yea i understand, but you are advising to TS to run 3S 2050kv in his buggy which is not enough for out door tracks. Indoor is an other story.

If you need more speed then just gear up for a longer track. Beside's that the buggy combo is ideal for a 1/10 SC Race since they are usually on a smaller 1/8 scale track. Never seen any high temp's and still run the stock slipper that came with my PE. I did upgrade to Tekno axle kit's so I would be safe on the axle's, but never had a problem w/ the stocker's either.
You may need to have a high kv motor to prove some point, but I am cool with what get's me the most enjoyment and the best result's for me.
