Hi all,

Check out the latest 2004 Durango. Very interesting cell layout, but not much room for electrics! Does anyone know where these can be pruchased? I thought Durango were a direct seller, but there's no function for this on their web site.

I would have to say that's one of the weirdest setups i've ever seen... i personally don't really like how the battery layout is but hey i'm sure they did that for a reason.

It's cool to see a new and innovative design. Having that said, it doesn't look very practical for any racer. I know the Durango series hasn't really been mainstream, but it looks like the 2004 version has gone to a completely custom chassis and layout. At least with the Durango TC3 there were many parts in common with the onroad TC3 ... and the layout was a bit more user friendly.

The D2K4 looks to be limited to LRP only esc's (see them stuffed under the front bellcranks) and a very unusual close fitting saddle pack battery layout (short prone, I'm sure).

I'd like to see it in action. I bet it is very quick and stable. All of the heavy components (battery / motor / servo) are jammed as close as possible to the centerline. I bet its cornering speed is second to none.

While it looks very cool, it certainly won't be widely available. Bummer. I wish Gerd the best of luck with his new creation.

I wonder why they didn't just run the batteries the normal saddle way, looks like it would still be close to the center like they like.

Honestly, even if this car was super cheap, I don't think I would get one due to the fact that I do need space to work on the vehicle, and the batteries being so close together worries me.

I saw this thing a few months ago. The thing I don't like about the design is how high the drive train sits. I'd imagine that would give an extremly top heavy feel to the car and an ungodly amount of torque steer having the rotational mass that high in the air.

I'm thinking the 'drive shafts' (they look like blue anodized T4 CVDs) are probably aluminum and therefore relatively light. The motor rotation would cancel most of the torque steer. Also, I think having the batteries and motor so tightly packed around the centerline probably helps offset what torque steer potential exists.

Like I said, innovative, but probably too 'out there' for most people.

Notice how the Durango 2004 now uses B4 arms for both Front & Rear plus probably the hubs, etc. ....replacing the Schumacher CAT parts. A very BJ4 like strategy but a smart move nonethelesss considering the Associated parts are more readily available in the U.S. and probably most parts of the World!

The Cat3000 has been discontinued with no current replacement. A good reason to switch to AE arms, hubs etc.

Word is the Durango 2004 is not commercially available at the moment. Sales should commence in 2005.

I wonder what price they will come up with now? They probably will have to price it close or at the price of the BJ4x4 if they want this to sell at all. A good finish in some known races would help too.

I heard that only factory drivers will be able to get hold of this anyways, and it will be a little more pricecy then the BJ4... and why won't it be out on sale in markets until 2005???

If this car is a prototype, I am not suprised it won't come out till next year.

I hope more of these 4wd manufacturers also consider making cheaper versions of there vehicles as you don't need all the options to go fast around the track.

I think the price of the Durango and BJ4 reflects that a lot of the car isn't mass-produced.
