It is confusing, lipos have 3 voltages to deal with and few pick up on that until they get a littel experieince. The nominal voltage is whats used for reference (advertising), supposedly, it was the voltage of a cell under load, but running a data recorder, you realize they much have been using a 'light' load, lol. Course this may have come from the elec plane side of the hobby, they are ahead of where surface is with respect to lipo.

Then there is the charged voltage, 4.2v/cell, which is important since you def don't want to overcharge. Then the minimum voltage, ~3v/cell, which is also important cause you don't want to over discharge either since both can result in damage (puffing) of your lipo.
