Default Tekin RX8 Truggy Combo 1550kv VS. Castle Creations 1717 @ 1580kv?

Heya. I'm looking to convert my GST 7.7 to brushless, and as you all know this is a heavy beast. It's around 17lbs with nitro gear.

I'm looking for the most powerful motor that will deliver insane amounts of torque, and also work well on 6s with a Mamba Monster ESC, or perhaps another combo alltogether (Whatever works best.). My first choice is a Castle Creations 1717 @ 1580kv. The rest of the choices are:

Neu-Castle 1520/1Y @ 1600kv

Neu 1527/1.5D @ 1500kv

Neu 1521/1Y @ 1577kv

Or a Tekin RX8 Truggy combo. Most likely a 1550kv motor.

But which is most powerful, the 1717 @ 1580kv or the Tekin 1550kv? The reason I chose these 2 is because the 1717 is, supposedly, the most powerful motor out of all the other choices I have, except the 1527/1.5D obviously, but I think that motor is too amp thirsty for a Mamba on 6s.

Thanks in advance for any help or tips.

I just ordred a Tekin RX8 2250 for a Slash 4wd...was wondering kind of the same. Atleast motor wise is a 2250kv on 3s to much, or should I have went to a 17?? on 4s?

Otherwise Tekin all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I run the RX8 with the 1550kv truggy combo on 5s in my Losi 8T 2.0. I have the current turned down to 60% and still pull the nitros 3 truck lengths down the straights. I've never run any of the other combos you have listed but I can say the Tekin is AWESOME!!!!!

Maybe I should go down to a 1700 on 4s......have you tried 4s on your 1550?

That 1717 - 1580kv is huge... make sure it fits your mount

Yeah, I sketched it out on a piece of paper. That thing is MASSIVE!

Anyways, now I just need to find someone to make me a mount that will fit the CEN. I've already asked RC-monster, just waiting for an answer..

Are you racing or bashing? The 1717 is too much for racing imo

Obviously those castle/neu motors are way more powerful.. it's not even close. The tekin motors are not even as powerful as a castle 1515 1y (2200) let alone the bigger ones.. IMO in that heavy of a rig I'd stay as far away from the tekin as possible.. I've seen regular size truggies burn them up.

PS for that tekin fanboy, relax.. lol tekin are nice but you're not even on topic.. LOL

Ah, ok, thanks for the warning. It sounds kind of odd that the Tekin couldn't handle regular sized truggies at the right kv. If it can't handle that, what can it handle?

But I've pretty much settled on the 1717 for now. I wonder how the Plettenberg Maxximum or BIGMaxximum compare nowadays? They seem to be pretty outdated nowadays I guess, but they still cost around 400-500$. Are they keeping them updated somehow or?

Question for you, have YOU personally burnt up one of our T8 motors in a truggy? I would love to see it as that would be a first for me and trust me, I drive hard and push things to the limit because it's part of my job.

You need to research before you throw out information that misleads people. Our T8 motors are more than enough for regular 1/8 truggies and happen to be the same size class motor as the Castle/Neu. Plus, ours is sensored, so you get better low end control, braking, and some new features are on the way.

We have had 0 "burned up" T8 motors come back, granted we had some rotor issues early on but that has been taken care of. Our motors are every bit as powerful as the Green, so I'm really not sure where you're coming up with this mis-information.

Yea thats why so much truggy racers are racing with Tekin right? I have a Castle 1515 2200kv motor here and a Neu 1512 1850kv and I can tell I don't like to drive the castle motor. I has way too much drag on the magnets, which makes my car unstable while cornering.

We also didn't like the excessive cog torque in some of the other motors. Which is why the T8 line doesn't have it. We're racers and when testing we didn't like the drag as it upset the chassis too much in high speed corners.

Ty's right, I'd like to see someone burn up a T8 truggy motor in a regular truggy, won't happen. We have far more "miles" than anyone else and if they burned up we'd know.

The GST is a HUGE monster truck. Gearing will be the biggest issue. You're going to need to settle on what battery power you're going to use before you choose the motor. I'd also suggest trying to keep the tranny to help with gear reduction if it's possible. This is what I'm doing on my TCS Savage Flux Baja 5 conversion project...2 speed tranny with mechanical brakes.

i run the Tekin 1550 in my truggE and it is pure sweetness.
I lent my truck to a guy on 2 separate race days when his nitro failed and he is now our series points leader.
Castle is fine too but not as smooth and IMHO, I recommend going with a lower KV and 5s or 6s lipo with truck. You can get a 2200 but I would go 4s on that. You will lack on the torque that a lower KV will have but you can still run it.
