1/8th brushless
Ok well im looking into a 1/8th brushless buggy. How are the novak 1/8th systems? im looking at getting one. I know the castle is good but im kind of on a budget and ive always liked novak. What are the ups and downs of each! this is for racing so i dont care about running 5 or 6s batteries! thank you!
Here are the two systems im looking at

I personally run the Castle Mamba Monster ESC, and so far, it has given me no problems, other than the switch, which is very easily bypassed. Many people at tracks I've been to run the Tekin RX8, and have had many problems. I'm not to familiar with Novak, but I do like the Mamba Monster!

What's up d8 man
I knew i would see you getting an electricFor the novak,it's alright but i heard of esc issues, and on the mamba i have nothing but good things to say about it.The novak makes decent power while the mamba makes it possible to clear the biggest of jumps, and it's easier to program,i program mine on the netboook i'm typing on right now.The mamba will run cooler along with making great power on 3s or 4s although i use the it on 4s in buggy or truggy for the runtime. And the motors on the mamba are indestructable and the esc the same if fastened and cushioned enough(2 layers of double sided tape and 1 thick ziptie under the esc mounting plate and over the esc)IN SHORT just go with the mamba, everyone hear will say the same.

Novaks, Speed Passion, LRP, aren't really up to the task of 1/8 racing. You will have heat problems. They are 2 pole motors which means they don't put out as much torque as the Tekin, Castle, or Hobbywing which are 4 pole motors.
Get a Tekin, Castle, or Hobbywing and don't look back.

I havn't seen a MMM esc have issues in over a year (since v3 came out), the motors have never had issues. The rx8 esc seems decent in buggies, though I've seen 2 esc's smoke in the last year but the tekin motors seem to be a little sensative.. castle 1y motors are beasts and hard to mess up. The tekin are a lot more sensitive and I've seen several burn up even this year as well.
MMM from what I've seen myself and around me are pretty much a sure thing, the tekin is the next best but it's not as durable iMO. Again just from what I've seen, I've never owned a tekin myself.
With a truggy you NEED mechanical brakes.. iMO.. it will assure a LONG life to either system.. but since you are going 1/8 buggy it's not as necessary, but still nice. Check out tekno brushless kits.
PS notice I didn't metion novak.. neither should you or anyone when it comes to 1/8 scale racing

castle or hobbywing
Just don't put tekin on your list if you want a reliable system. The castle or the xerun systems are comparible to each other but the castle has a better customer service line and can be programmed on your netbook or laptop so you can do quick and minor tweaks in minutes.

Castle is a safe bet and includes the castle-link for the pc the tekin costs more and you have to pay $30 more on top of that for the hotwire pc link.

As mentioned, Castle MMM or Hobbywing Xerun are excellent systems. Castle has better customer service, but the Xerun systems run just as good at a much lower price. I've had both and like both, but can afford more Xerun systems than I can Castles and both have been good (though my last MMM, a V3, died on me not long ago). I also have one of the new Speed Passion Cirtix systems and so far it's working much better than their Silver Arrow systems which overheat quickly.
For about $160 shipped, you can't touch the Xerun 80A with 2250kV motor combo. And the field program box makes it super easy to program at the track.

ok im looking at the xerun. How are they? im on a little of a budget atm. Also how many kv should i get? Im a little of a power freak so the more power i get the better but i dont want over heating problems.

get the XErun 150a esc. It'll handle the 6s, not sure on the 80A though. XERuns can be programed on the computer as well. The esc can be ran sensored or sensorless but the motor comes sensorless. I hear that they are coming out with new sensored motors so it should be smoother. JMHO

on a off road buggy gear normal how fast would 4s go? How about 6s?
