Dont buy the Inferno VE...

I would wait for the RC8Be. Everytime I bought something due to impatience, I ended regretting it. If you absolutely can't wait both the Hyper 9e and Ve8 are good. Supposedly the latest arms (version 3 I think) fix the arm issues but ice also read you need the stiffer rear bracing to prevent bending the center driveshaft on a bad landing. Aside from those it seems like an excellent buggy. The Ve8 has the known chassis issues but also is very restrictive on batteries and I don't like having to cut motor shafts. The HHH chassis fixes all those issues and since the Ve8 is cheaper, adding the HHH chassis brings it to about similar price to the Hyper 9e.
Still if you like the RC8Be I'd just wait a little longer for it.

VE8 is great as long as you plan on getting the HHH alum chassis right from the start.. forget about the alum skids.. waste of money now that the HHH chassis is out.. brilliant design iMO.

If you can't get that,, stick w/ the associated.

I think I will probably just wait for the rc8be. JSR is right, if I get something else due to impatience, I will probably regret it later. I had the sc8e and converted it to the rc8e and liked the way it drove.

The Ve8 with the HHH chassis is the baddest E-car out there. I like mine alot, It steers like no other car out there. I have to say next on my list would have to be the Caster EX1.5R that car they stepped their game up dramatically. Their parts quality was good befor but now they are way in the upper class dept.

I'd rather get a D8 and convert it than run a VE8.

Convert a Nitro. You have to get a Elite motor mount for the E cars anyway. So the only added cost to convert is a battery tray, sometimes a radio box, and stiffer springs.

You can sell the nitro parts to recoup that, or keep them so you can sell your chassis later.

You can build a better car yourself. The lopsided Ve8 is a good example, Allthough it is perfectly fast.

It's sad that fancy pro RC engineers and pro racers are a few steps behind us lowly privateers and basement small parts machineists.

The Kyosho looks great. The Mugens a safe bet. The Xray rules.

I agree with malik, check out the Caster 1.5R. I don't own one, but I do have the F8T truggy and it has been great. The price for the 1.5R is very reasonable and it is a solid kit.

I think I will wait to have the joy of building the car myself and the new car smell I wish they have more kits out there. It's all RTR now.

Do not overlook the HPI Vorza. I have been racing one this year and love it.
It is heavy, but does not drive like it. The only thing I would like to see is a aftermarket/upgraded chassis. If one does not come out this year I will likely buy a Tekno kit and swap parts.

I used to drive an RC8e and upgraded a lot, but it wears out fast IMO.
I now drive converted Mugens and they take rough beating and are durable.
So I would recommend a converted Mugen or XRay rather than some of the other plastic suggested here...

I hope that you left Caster out just because it wasn't mentioned. Or are you considering it a separate category because it wasn't a factory conversion?

lets say you buy a new nitro kit and a Tekno conversion kit.. yes the kit is 100$ but im sure you could sell all the new parts from the nitro kit that you dont need, and you would more than make your money back.

chassis
fuel tank
motor mount
clutch
RX box
side guards

I'm waiting for the rc8be as well, this looks like a pretty sweet truck. I had an e-mail from Tower Hobbies that was for $60 off a purchase over $300 but I can't seem to find the offer e-mail or number. I also wonder if they'll allow me to use it on items that are not in stock.
