I put an extra layer of heatshrink on my lipos. It os only like 1.50 a foot. Plus when you sell them you can cut it off and the packs look brand new!

I bought some sheets of lexan .40 or .60 thickness and cut pieces to fit onto the pack. Then I attached the pieces using nylon reinforced packing tape. The lexan sort of acts as a hardshell but still allows you to feel/see if a pack is swelling or suffered damage. It helps protect the soft cells from getting puncntured by small objects and the lexan is tougher than plain shrink wrap. I have also added lexan panels, then put another layer of shrink wrap to hold them in place. In the picture below the battery in the middle has the lexan cover, held by the tape then I applied clear shrink wrap over it.

left to right: Shrink wrap, lexan shell and hard plastic case.

Maxamps and Cheapbatterypacks both sell shrink by the foot in several sizes.
