Bob and Charlie are working to establish the Kv ratings of our 550s with the 14mm tuning rotor installed.

You can get them right now with the Build-A-Balistic 550 program. It is $5 more for the 14MM rotor:

Been running the 14mm rotor for over a year and it really is a great upgrade IMO , lower temps and more torque .

To me it really didnt seem much slower though I have heard as much as 700-1500Kv lower ? Hopefully NovakTwo can show some real data ?

I have been running the same gearing as I did with the stock rotor .

Default Notice to Novak Customers

In 2010, when ROAR published the new rules for Short Course trucks and events our 550 size motors were not included for use in the 4x4 SCTs. Because we believed that this larger motor was more suited for the heavier 4x4s, Bob Novak contacted ROAR and asked for (and received) their OK for the provisional use of our 550 size motors in 4x4 SC events. Our motors were approved for use at the local level, but not for ROAR-sanctioned National races.

Some of our original product copy for both our Ballistic 550 motors and the combos incorporating this motor said "ROAR-Approved". I noticed this in our Ballistic motor information last year and directed that it be removed. However, this was not edited out of the combo copy at that time. As soon as this was called to my attention, I asked marketing to review our web/store information and change all wording to reflect this provisional OK.

I apologize for any confusion this may have caused our Ballistic (or HV) 550 motor customers and want to clarify the situation with this statement. Bob has been in contact with ROAR officials in an on-going effort to see if any decision has been reached concerning the 2011-2012 official use of our 550 size motors.

We will be doing the release announcement soon--probably within the next few weeks. Until then, ordering a Build-A-Ballistic™ 550 costs less than purchasing the replacement 14mm rotor.

We just announced our upcoming epoxied stator for the B 550s.

Ballistic 550 4.5 Hand-Wound, Epoxied Stator

Our technical article (PDF) about epoxied stators is listed in the right hand column on our front page.

+1, I would prefer to spend the money upfront instead of upgrading.

u can just do the build a ballistic. i know for the 540's u can do that, add the ceramic bearings, 13mm rotor, and pick your stator, much much cheaper than doing it all after the fact.

We will be adding all epoxied stators to our BAB programs in the next couple of weeks; we already offer the 14mm 550 rotor in the BAB 550 program. In addition, we will be selling the Ballistic 550 4.5T with the 14mm rotor installed through our distributor network. We are selling some of our epoxied stators through distribution; four 540 winds and one 550 (4.5T).

Our rotor manufacturer just quoted new 550 rotor prices---doubling our previous price, with a quotation valid for seven days! The prices of the rare earth metals used in our rotors are sky-rocketing. We spec a very high temperature, rare-earth "recipe" for our rotor magnets. These new prices will necessitate an increase in all pricing on our 550 size motors and combos---both distributed and offered in our BABs.

We formally announced our Ballistic 550 High-Torque Brushless Motor - 4.5T (#3514) and have begun shipping.

Novak's Ballistic 550 Brushless Motors -- 4.5T (#3504), 5.5T (#3505) & 6.5T (#3506) are the first 550-sized motors to break into short course competition and easily outperform traditional 540-sized motors. The Ballistic 550s are so powerful because of their extra long stator and rotor magnet. In fact, the stator and rotor magnet are twice the length of 540-sized motors, giving them twice the torque of an equivalent 540 motor. The more torque, the more speed that is generated! Additionally, these larger-sized motors run cooler and more efficiently than their 540 counterparts.

In addition to its already impressive features, including low-speed driveability and no cogging, the Ballistic 550s have also been fitted with rugged 5mm output shafts for maximum resilience and race life. Additionally, the motors are sensor-based for a smooth and controlled power delivery.

Coming soon! Novak adds another mighty motor to its Ballistic 550 line-up. The Ballistic 550 High-Torque BL Motor - 4.5T/3,850 Kv (#3514) has a (14mm Tuning Rotor (#5949)) and provides even more torque and power.
