Default Slash 4x4 help please!

Ok so I just got a slash 4x4 and I really have no idea about how to set it up or anything. I usually run nitro but now im trying out electric. I want to know what i need to get as far as batteries because I heard the stock one isnt that great. Im looking to get a lipo. What do i need in order to charge a lipo? So if someone could tell me what charger is good out there and what batteries are good for slash 4x4 that would be great. I have a max budget of $200 for this vehicle. Basically I want good speed and run times that would be at least 15-20 minutes if possible. So if anyone can help me out with batteries and charger (balancer for lipo?) that would be great.

If you dont mind ordering from China get this stuff.

Charger-http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=7028

You will need a power supply for that charger but I couldn't recommend one from there. I haven't heard good things about some of then and couldn't tell you which ones are good. This is a good power supply though. I have used one with great success.http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXVCK9&P=ML

These are good LiPos. You will just need to take a bit of material out of the side of the battery tray so the wires on the battery don't get pinched. Not a big deal, IMO.

Hope that helps

Good stuff here, but if you plan to race, make sure that your track allows soft-case lipos. The pack above is considered a "soft case." The hard case packs are safer and more protected. Here is a link.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that about the soft packs. I suggested those though because the hard packs are for ever back ordered It seems like every time I check they are more and more negative in quantity.

I'd go with a Hyperion vx 2s 5000mah and a duratrax onyx 230 charger and have money left over! Also get into eBay asap! The charger i listed is really good for the cash with built in power supply, it will charge a 2s 5000@6 amps,
I have 2 of these. Also the Hyperion batterys are really nice and priced pretty fair. Have fun!

will i need a power supply with the onyx 230 charge? Im kinda looking to avoid getting the power supply its getting a little expensive. I think ill stay away from lipos and go with a good 5000mah nimh battery. Anyone have any recommendations for a charger and battery of this type where i will not need a power supply.

No you will not need a power supply but you'll need a balancer.
I recomend this one:
Great Planes ElectriFly Equinox LiPo Cell Balancer
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...EARCH=gpmm3160

I recomend getting a 2s 20c 5000mah Turnigy battery
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idproduct=9172
This is the battery ive been using and it makes the 4x4 a rocket with factory gearing and no center diff!

it also says this on the onyx 230 charger :
Fast charge current: 0.1-7.0A linear, adjustable
(AC 50W, DC 70W, 2C limit for lithiums)

does that mean i cant use 20c lipos because thats all i see out there lol

The onyx 230 will charge just about any battery up to 3s lipo.
The batterys output c rating doesn't matter while charging.
I paid around $80 at the hobby shop for my first one, $50 used like new 2nd one on eBay.

I'm looking into getting a third charger for 5c charging. The Hyperion batterys are great. Free shipping from rclipos.com

I just recently got some http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10098 (Turnigy 5000mAh 2S1P 20C hardcase pack) for my 4x4 Slash.

I have not had a chance to run them (still need to solder on new plugs) but they are a perfect fit with no modifications needed. Just remove the foam that is in the battery tray and replace it with the foam that came in the parts bag. Mine came with 4mm bullet connectors, so you will need to replace them with traxxas ones if you want to keep the ESC stock. Hobbyking also has those http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9762

Good luck!

so im going to go with one of the lipos from hobby kingz like everyone has been recommending but how do you change the plug on the end of the battery so it goes is the slash. How do you make it a traxxas plug? So im getting the charger, battery, balancer and then what else do i need to make this work?

One of the basics of RC is being able to rewire connections. Not too hard to do with a new connector - you need to pick up some traxxas connectors at your local hobby shop, perhaps, a good 40watt soldering iron and good solder. Or, have your hobby shop install a new plug for you. They may give you "crap" if you bring in stuff for them to solder and yuo didn't buy it there - so then if that happens, get a fellow RC'er or racer to show you how.

Try to get the hardcase packs from HobbyCity. Above, one mentioned the one soft-pack 20C Turnigy but that's not really for you in this case. It's a model they have had some trouble with at times (a few guys here mentioned a fire in his apartment, I've puffed a cuople of them myself too in my son's 1/8 buggy).

The best way to go is a top-wire hardcase 20C-30C 5000 lipo. From HobbyCity, you shuold consider the Accucel-6 charger, a power supply for it, and one of these batteries (buy two if you want more runtime without waiting on charging).

Top-wire (but they're on back order).
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10098

Side-wire batteries and the charger/power (I use the 20C version of the first one here).
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9436
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10277
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7028
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6256

You can get a battery, charger, shipping for < $100.

dont waste your time with Hobbycity and there constant backordered packs

buy this http://www.hobbypartz.com/83p-4000ma...4-30c-car.html

and this http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html

I just got both delivered to FL in 4 days for $86.00. You cant beat that.

You will need to change the connectors on your ESC and battery to Deans plugs.

I agree with rdeppen. But you don't need deans connectors, the traxxas ones are just as good.
