Questions?? motor choice 1/8th buggy

want some recomendations on motors for 1/8th scale buggy running on astroturf surface (carpet grass ) this would be high grip with 4s batts ,i am sticking with mamba but there are choices from 1600 kv 1800kv 1900kv 2000kv and 2600kv ,i was told buy 1 guy get 2600 less torque ,then another said complete opposite and low kv better ,more torque but more smooth controllable power ??? ,what are differences in kv ratings and when would you use high kv and when low ??

What battery cell count will you plan on using? The Tekin 1900kv is the sweet spot for 4s lipo. I wouldn't go much lower than that. Now 5s or 6s opens up more possibilities. 1400 or 1550 is good.

Hey bud
if your gonna be doing long races like 10 or 15 minute races on 4cell lipos your gonna want the 2000kv but if its just 5 minute races go for 2600kv
but remember you wanna finish the race not be the fastest for the first couple of minutes and then run out of juice

less kv easier control because its got less kick but less temps, run much longer
high kv harder control because its got alot of kick but higher temps, run not as long
its really up to you in the end mabey see if you can get second hand versions of both and see what suits you the most

With the 1800KV, you could do fine since 4S would hook up well on astro-grass. 5S if you want even more punch. Think about it - you will have excess traction and if you have too much power, you may overpower the traction. You would want control versus acceleration. How big is the track in feet or meters? If the track is small, 2650 on 4S would be too fast - requiring you to dial-down the throttle EPA to keep it in check while 1800KV would be fine. 2200KV would be in the middle delivering even more power since it's a truggy motor and 4S would be quite good with that.

The Castle 1800 will be perfect on 4s with high traction.

4S / 1900KV combo is $$$. This is what I run in my MBX6 and it is perfect.

I'm running a 2200kv setup on a small tight track, and had to dial the punch control way down to get the car controllable. It's geared around the same top speed as a nitro, and gives runtimes around 18mins on our track.

If I had to choose now, I'd go for either 1800kv castle motor (which wasn't available when I got my setup) or tekin 1900kv. Either of those should give better runtimes than my current setup, and have enough controllable power on 4s lipo.

Stick with a 1800 or 2200kv. The 2650 is too much for anything above 3s and is less efficient than a lower kv/higher voltage setup. 1800kv on 4s or 5s is the perfect setup for a buggy.
