Depends, track size, grip, driver preference will determine where you'll end up. I am usually in trailing 3 in Rm3 configuration, but it may not work for you or your track..

m3 lock nuts+washers should do the job, or mcmaster carr to the rescue, #91175A061 I think those will work, if they are captured you might need to play with the threaded rod length to get everything right

i made my own thumb screws out of old screw style wing mounts

I am using lock nuts now.. but it's hard to get them off in a hurry thumb screw would be much easier.. does anyone know what the rod size is? would I just look up m3 thumb screw?

idk, I haven't lost one yet, but I do put a little countersink in my battery plate, and add 1mm to the chassis post so they actually tighten and not just flex the plate. Not sure if that's why your losing them.?? The plastic ones usually thread on fairly tight..
Yeah, they are 3mm. I know that the HPI ones are metric, think for a firestorm or something, they are gunmetal in color.

perfect thanks! I found 100 4-40 plastic thumb nuts that converts to 3mm for 11 bucks on ebay.. figured I will give them a shot. Plus I can dye them any color I want

I generally run them inline. This is typically best in low grip loose conditions. It is also good on higher grip surfaces with slower motors such as 17.5 blinky mode. The faster the motor and the higher grip the track, the more trail should be run. This is my general guide though and not any set in stone rule.
