It is highly unlikely that $1m has ever gone into the development of any RC car product.
David, the fact that Durango doesn't F around, and in a short time has become the hallmark of quality and engineering, should be more than enough evidence that $1 million is plenty money to develop a revolutionary 2w buggy. And, furthermore, anybody who spends a million bucks on developing a toy car will have a patent on something. Granted, ThunderbirdJunkie holds patents, and none of the projects on which he worked cost anywhere near a million dollars. It's not that hard to have a process or design patented.

If you don't believe a toy car project cost a million bucks to develop, you don't understand R&D costs.

I do understand development and molding costs. This hobby is way smaller a business than you think it is. Where would $1m come from in Durango's organization? They are a small company with small sales volume.

Default $1,000,000

Did they, Team Durango, ever claim to have spent $1,000,000 on the development of their two wheel buggy?

small company yes, small sales volume... no.

in europe, dex's are like b44s. in most cases they are 60% of the 4wds race. don't forget they're a global company, just because here in the USA we can't get off AEs nuts doesn't mean the rest of the world is the same

look at the team drivers they have

if you hold patents then you know how easy it is to dispute them as well......

Patent or no patent, a million dollars or a thousand dollars in development costs, the DEX 210 looks plain bad as*. It will replace my brother's 22 as soon as my lhs has them in stock. Durango sold me after we got his first 410 and another 410 and two DESCs later they continue to impress. Really looking forward to building one and enjoying a top quality 2wd buggy build and then tuning it in.

Someone who knows about development costs???

For me, all that matters is that the car looks and performs good and there are some features that are NOT cookie cutter. The DEX210 looks the part...
