Reducing the weight of your buggy is a common thing for stock racers.
Light weight drive components, titanium screws/turnbuckles, slipper lockers are a few of the things some stock racers use.

anyone got say a breakdown of common parts for the durango for stock racing with some part #?

Also, are people going 3 gear tranny then or still 4 gear?

For me from the practice I was able to do at the track that runs stock, mind you my motor is not one of the hot setup ones, I felt like I needed a bigger pinion but I don't think I can fit one (69T spur, I think 34T pinion). Punch was good though still, comparable to the guy I was practicing with whose car I believe was running a maxzilla D4 motor. Me just an older style Viper VST 17.5 motor.

I only run 3 gear, whether it's in rear motor or mid motor. I personally can't stand the way 4 gear drives. Don't believe the hype about a 4th gear being a huge parasitic loss though. It isn't. Reducing rotating mass does help acceleration though so it combined with other things such as a lighter top shaft and plastic planetary gears in the diff should make a difference. The Dimec chassis are lighter than the aluminum as well so this helps with getting weight down.

The two extremes that I won't go to are lighter screws or a slipper eliminator. The slipper serves a purpose. I upgrade many of my vehicles to heavier stainless steel screws. The weight difference is tiny and they just don't strip out as easily.

My stock class DEX210 weighs in at about 1450 grams when I take the weights off.
MM3 layout, The parts I've used:
Exotek carbon fiber chassis
Exotek direct spur mount
Exotek Flite layshaft
Titanium turnbuckles (TDR330046 & TDR330045)
Aluminum screws in non-load bearing plastic to plastic locations
Titanium shock shafts (TDR330257 & TDR330258)
All plastic gear diff
Trakpower 3250mAh

I've been considering trying the TD aluminum CVD axle (TDR310274), but I haven't heard the best reviews on their durability.

Wheels, foams and tires are not all the same weight, and reduction of rotating mass makes a big difference.

Default Gearing Questions

Hey ya'll!!! I bit the bullet and bought one of these to add to my durango fleet! What gearing should I try? I run on a small, indoor clay track and will be running a tekin 8.5 motor. What size pinion should I try, or what will fit the stock spur? Since the 8.5 is probably over powered, I will want to gear it pretty low, so what is a smaller pinion size for the stock spur? Thanks for the help!!!

Also, any other goodies I should get before I start my build on Thursday?

Interesting........

Team Durango have released a first sneaky teaser image of what could be the successor of the popular DEX210 2WD off-road buggy.

Front from DEX210, rear from DEX410. Would be simple and probably very effective

I finally broke down and bought the D413 not too hijack the thread here but now I have a 410 and a 210 so maybe I'll make something like this!

Very likely, a friend of mine who is one of the few Durango UK team drivers remaining, has developed one that is being used at the UK nationals, does seem to go very well.

I few snippets of information for you all.

- This car is not a DEX210 (or DEX210v2) replacement
- This is a 'forward motor' car that will sit alongside DEX210 and DEX410
- DEX210 front end but not a DEX410 rear end
- 12mm hex wheel fitment will be included in kits

I've probably said too much already...
