Default What RC car for a 7 year old??

So my buddy asked me what would be a decent, and inexpensive RC car for his 7 year old. I'm thinking the toy brands would be best, as his dad really isnt into RC. Before I got my first real RCs I had a couple of Nikkos that worked well at the time.

Can anyone suggest a decent toy offroad RC?

Thanks!

I would get him a Slash. My son has been racing since he was five. We started him with a Losi XXXT and then moved him into an 8th scale truggy. I got him (and me) a Slash last Christmas and he loves it. We can run them around the yard or street without worrying about breaking our "racing" vehicles but he can race it in the SC class when we go to the track. Cheap, durable and raceable. You can't go wrong!

A Stampede would be an inexpensive choice also ($150). While not really race-worthy, it's totally bash-worthy. My 4 year old son has one and loves it. It drives anywhere and can be turned down with training mode until they get the hang of it.

I got my 5 year old a Tamiya Boomerang.

OK, it was for me but he loves it.

Took him to an On road race a couple weeks back and he even entered it in a race, was a bit of a laugh,Untill he smashed a super expensive car into the fence to stop it passing,Lmao.

Getting him an onroad kit now for Xmas so he can race proper.

I would look at the RC18 series for a kid. They are an older car, but parts will be around for years. They are very easy to work on, great for learning. Comes with everything you need in one box. Small enough to run in confined areas, but fast enough to keep you entertained. If you dont install a serious powerplant you can ram it into anything without breaking it.

If the father is not into r/c it might not be a good choice, you have toss r/cs which are cool for a little will then ether get boring or brake and get thrown away. You could get a taymia kit where they would have to put it together, but then the know it inside and out. But with any good r/c they will eventally break and need to get worked on, or the kid will get bored bashing by himself. If he has friends with r/c s have him get what they have then they can race togehter. But being a father I would have him get something, not nesserly an r/c that they can both do together and engoy. The best is spending time with dad.

My 5.5yr old drives a Slash when we go to the track. Jrx Pro in the driveway at home.

Need some clarification on inexpensive. There is our version of inexpensive RC, then there is everyone else that shops Wal-Mart toy department.

I seem to see a pattern developing in this thread...
I was going to say Slash, but every one else beat me to it.

Resale'able
Race'able
Bash'able

Something that easily goes through grass and fits your budget. I remember being a kid and not liking that our 1/10th buggies and trucks had a hard time riding around the backyard.
