Default What brushed motor for RC8

I just purchased an RC8 here on the forum and I want to do the electric conversion on it. I don't have the money right now to go brushless so I'm looking for some help on what type of ESC and brushed motor I can run until I get the funds for the brushless set up. Thanks for the help.

if you can find a mount to fit one a traxxas emaxx motor might work but it would be real slow.

Your better off just getting a cheaper Chinese BL system. You can get a whole combo for under $150 and the esc is good just later when you get some cash upgrade the motor to CC-Tekin Speed passion ect. Look at Hobbycity or even Kershaw sells the combo for like $135 or something like that but mind you you will have to get the better motor eventually. But if your set on brushed yes Kershaw the 700HV or 900HV. But in their kits they usually use 2 motors for the brushed set ups.

I agree, you should look at the EZRun/Turnigy systems. They are great systems and I bet they are similar in costs to the brushed setup you would need.

I would definitely not recommend going brushed in a 1/8 buggy no matter what it is.

The 775 will definitely power it but you won't be able to clear the jumps even the stock 2wd buggies can let alone the "mod" jumps. Those motors have tons of torque but low RPMs.

The Kershaw will work but it is designed to run 2 at a time as someone said. 1 will likely have the same result as a Titan 775.

If short on cash the EZ Run is definitely your best bet.

But sadly it's always cheaper in the long run to buy the more expensive stuff in the beginning. Good luck with whatever you choose though.

I was in your boat for my first try at a 1/8th conversion. I got one of the Kershaw designes 950 motors (really humongous) and asked Dan for advice on gearing. I used his gearing. On my first test I turned 10 laps in the same time the Nitros were running 13 laps. I ran it for exactly one pack (actually two 6-cell NiMH in series, but one run).

The motor got so hot that it still smelled 3 months later. It didn't burn up, and it finished the run, but it got really hot.

Exactly one run on that motor

Get a brushless.

dont waste your time, just get a brushless system for it, and get a decent one, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the help. I will wait until I get the money and go with either the castle or tekin.
