Default One cell lipo and option?

Hey all: One cell lipos are being used now for many 10th and 12th road&oval pancar classes so what's the viabillity of using them in 10th electric off road? I could see lets say 10th 2wd buggy/truck sportsman classes using one cell lipos to keep speeds and cost down. Thanks for the info

I don’t know, offroad cars are heavier, more rolling resistance I would think (loose dirt), have to attack big jumps. Maybe not.

If a 5000 MAH 1 cell pack can power a 4.5 in a 12th scale for 8 minutes, I can't see why you couldn't gear one to run in a buggy for 6. I usually only take about 800 MAH out of my 2 cell back in my buggy. Does it make sense taht a 1 cell pack would require double the capacity?

the motor would have to work alot harder because of the added gearing and the decrease in voltage so one would think it would take more energy to power hence needing more mah for the time it is going to run also more heat and added wear to the motor and esc.

The demands are tougher on the drive train off road and the trucks weigh more.

The higher the voltage, the more punch from a battery. Punch helps you clear the big jumps and gets the heavier truck moving faster, than the lighter pan cars that run on flat ground.

Lipos are not that expensive, especially compared to a couple of years ago, why do you feel the need to buy one 5000mah cell versus one 5000mah pack?

Personally I dont see the savings or any advantage.

Double the voltage is necessary not capacity. Off road requires more voltage (punch) because trucks and buggies are heavier than pan cars and they have to drive up hills, jumps and clear jumps, ect... pan cars usually run on flat ground. Which is why the new 1/8 th gear can use up to 6 cells.

It could work, but there really isn't industry products to make it work well. I only know of one company that sells a voltage booster to power the radio. Unless you use that you have to turn a receiver pack which would make things more technical for sportsman class. I am sure you could draw enough power from a single cell to make it work. A single cell from Thunder Power at 40C could easily do the job. 5000 mAh * 40C = 200A. At 3.7 volts that would be 740W of power. Plenty for a 1/10th. It would become more important to run high current ESC's and 12 AWG wire or bigger.
