I would get the 8.5T and gear taller for the top speed that you need. The lower kV will provide more low-end torque/grunt and I personally prefer running lower kV motors and gear taller for more speed as they provide enough torque for high top speeds.

For the ESC, I'd go 60A. More headroom and for a 4WD, the 60A is better IMO. I wouldn't use the 35A on anything over a 1/10 on-road. For the minor price difference, the 60A offers more performance margin and flexbility of use.

Does the 8.5 have more low end then 5.5? what would be the gearing on the 8.5?

Lower kv more generate (or are capable of) more torque. That's why you see big 1/8 MTs and truggies running low kv motors as torque is need for the weight. Higher kv spin faster and consume more curren so they typically run hotter.

Not sur gearing. I have no info on the gear ratios for your buggy. Use rcm's gearing calculator.

Don't get the finned-can HW motors! Those are 380-size motors inside a 540-size can (if you remove the size of the fins, it becomes a 380-can). The finned-can motors are all designed with whole numbers (i.e. 9T). These will heat up a lot and quickly powering anything more than a 1/10 on-road. You can run 1/10 2WD with these and they'll be quick, but they will run much hotter than if you ran the .5T motors.

The non-finned HW motors that end in .5T are the ones to get (5.5T, 8.5T, 13.5T, and 17.5T). Those are true 540 motors and work great.

I reackon the hobbywing 5.5 is about comparable to a novak 6.5.

Damn nice little motor for the price, and the speedy's nice as well.

This?

So the hobby wing 5.5 is like the novak 6.5? Then go with the 5.5 then right?

I've got one, and it's been solid, compared to my friend's 6.5 novak they seem to have about the same power.

Can't argue with the price.

I would recommend the 8.5 combo because you would be less likely to have some heat issues vs. the 5.5 in a 4wd. And, 8.5 isn't exactly slow... have you seen what a properly geared 13.5 does in a 2wd? wheelies

If you need a ballistic setup, then go with a known product instead

theres my track! Dont need a ballistic set-up. Mcdogboy says the hobby wing is comparable to the novak 6.5 so im leaning to it. But I had a couple say 8.5t. Ive been doing my research and getting different awnsers.

The lights I think have less torque. Get the regular 6.5.
