Slash Spur Alternatives

I realize you do not want to switch to 32p (0.8mod), but the tolerances, or lack of on the input shaft of the 272 gear box kind of says it all.
Running 32p I have gone through zero spurs & an aluminum pinion so far this outdoor season.
I run a 10.5 & a fairly tight slipper.
A fellow racer has gone through a couple of 32p spurs on an 8.5 & a heavy finger, otherwise it was a spur a week with 48p
The use of the 56 & 58 tooth spur & a 10-14 tooth pinion has gotten me every where I've needed so far.
Hope you find something that works for you....

Traxxas spurs seem to be made from a type of material that is, should we say more "abrasive" than what anybody else uses. I've only lost 3 spurs and each time was with a "soft" pinion. My thought is that the spur wears the pinion out, rather quickly, and it's the worn pinion that's taking out the spur. I don't really think they have a quality issue with thier spurs. Thier POS slipper assembly is another story

Jato spurs are the ones that fit. They list as 0.8mod & are around $4
The Jato Spurs do not fit under the cover, but one isn't needed unless your track requires one.
It will allow more cooling air to the slipper, if heat was ever a problem.
It will let more dirt into the front bearing on your motor, just be aware of it.
The 62,63? tooth from the e-maxx almost fits, but hits the out drive on the diff.
I've been using Robinson Racing pinions & when they knife edge & start to fold a little I pull them before the spur can get chewed.
The 58 spur 9pinion is the highest ratio you can go.
Currently I'm running a 56/13 on a 10.5
1/8th buggy tires are worth 1 whole tooth on a pinion.
Swapping spurs from the 56 to 58 on the same pinion is like a half a tooth.
If I need a little less speed, or heat I can go from my 56/13 to a 58/13, & the next step would be 56/12, then 58/12.
I'd have to look at my chart, but that is what I recall.

I was looking to convert mine over to 32 so I can use my 5.5 novak hv system.

Most of the side to side "wobble" is from the slipper hub casting. The slot for the pin is not perpendicular across the shaft hole. I got handy with the dremel and made it better. The spur gears are not concentric on top of it, probably garbage molds.

Some guys are saying it's not the spurs fault. Well, you guys, yes it is. We have talked about this a ton at my local track, and the real reason is that the spur's are pulled from the injection mold so fast after being molded that the spur is able to warp a little bit while drying, since it shrinks a bit after cooling down. There is no perfect Slash gear from Traxxas, they all have some small amount of wobble in them. My $0.02.

I agree with you. It's the inner plate slot not being in correct alignment. I've checked it several times and see the same thing you are seeing. Now I'm weighing my differences, do I mod EVERY drive plate i have and buy in tne future or do i go to 32P and save the headache. I guess it depends on what your/my track allows.

I can't believe nobody has come out with a machined slipper yet. They'ld sell a boat load.
