nimh help its been a while
i ordered my son a slash and bought a couple of 3000 mah nimh packs for it and since getting back into the hobby about 2 months ago after a 6 year break i have no clue what amperage to charge a nimh pack at as all i have now is lipos any help is appreaciated basically what i need to know is the charging amperage and the peak voltage of a 3000 mah 6 cell nimh pack

Most 1/10th scale Nimh packs can handle 3-4 amps no problem. Higher quality packs can take up to 5amps. The lower the charge rate the less punch and longer the batt will generally last. Higher rates will give more power but shorten the life of the pack. I used to charge practice packs at 2 amps so they would last, and my race packs at 5 amps so they had all the punch.
Peak voltage will vary depending on the cells, and the components used to build the pack. Any decent Nimh charger will automatically give the pack what it needs. I have seen good fresh packs peak at just under 9 volts, and some older ones have seen over 10 volts!

That's pretty much it... though a new sport pack should be able to handle 4-5 amps no problem.. Just watch the temp when charging.. should be warm when done.. not too hot..

And or go with a lipo pack. You can easily buy one good 5000 to 6000 mah SMC brand lipo pack around $75. You will need only one battery, have better power delievery for a longer duration of time, and wont have to worry about buying several packs, that will end up costing more in the long run.

Peak voltage on the charger will depend on the pack. It will peak lower when the pack is newer.. going higher as it ages.. you will need to just watch it and learn where it is at. It should be warm when the final peak is reached.. the time should also be consistent from charge to charge if used all the way down and/or dumped before recharging. Knowing these things will help you understand how the pack is doing.
