Just got done running the Strike tonight at my local indoor offroad track. I ran the truck last week some but it was getting sounding kinda loud in the transmission so I knew the idler gear was wearing.
Tonight I took the tranmission apart and put in the Slider plastic idler. I used Tamiya anitwear grease on the gears and put it back together. I reset the speedo from the last time and then went out an adjusted the slipper clutch. I changed the oils in the shocks and got it all ready to run.
Truck ran very well tonight and by far the best I have had it since I borrowed it. If I get a new shock shaft for the one that is bent slightly the front shock setup will work alot better.
The only other thing the truck has is the Losi CVD's and the plastic idler gear. Truck was very quiet and with the slipper setupgood I think the transmission problems are gone. I run the truck in a SPec class so wear and tear migh not be as much as some get when running hotter motors. I think having the slipper setup with just a little slip and then 1/4 turn more works great and takes some strain off the tranny gears.
The truck is close enough that I will run it in one of my heat races this Sunday so I can get some laptimes and see how close it is to the better guys and my Slash which works great.

Nice one. Great to hear and good luck rolling those Slashes...
How many turns off tight did you adjust your slipper? I did 2.5 from tight and still managed to snap the pin from the outdrive. You looser than this?

Not sure if I'm looser. What I did was loosen the slipper til the truck didn;t move. I then would tighten it a little at a time til I got it the accelerate with just a little slip (maybe 3 or 4 inches or so but I could see and hear it still slip) and then I gave it another 1/4 to no more than 1/2 turn and it worked great.
I leave the shock nut off so I can quickly move the shock, adjust the slipper, slip the shock on and try it. Once all set I put the nut back on behind the shock.
Hope that helps you out. I'm running on a very hard surface indoor clay with great traction when first wet but as it dries it gets very slippery with a light coating of dust on the track.

Does anybody have issue with the new losi ball diff? Mine got all messed up after two runs.
What exactly does "all messed up" mean...?
I know Todd has been recommending that people open up the diff and lube it better, etc. -- it is also recommended to ensure the slipper is loose enough so that the diff doesn't take too much abuse...
I had about 4 months on mine before I had to rebuild it (I was running it in my Slider sprint car)...

Does anybody have issue with the new losi ball diff? Mine got all messed up after two runs.
I did I bought a new 1 thinking it would get rid of my diff problems. Wrong!!!
First I stripped the plastic nut that tightens the diff screw. So I borrowed an associated nut. Next run it quit pulling again. The screw head broke off and a diff ring broke. So I borrowed a associated screw and a xxxt-cr diff ring and went out again. 3rd time it quit pulling in a few laps. This time I burned the center out. All this was done under normal driving conditions. No roughhouse.
Im running a 10.5 in my Strike.. My ball diff lasted until the third pack last night.. I had the stock slipper set to slip a few feet upon take off.. Diff was installed and tightened a 1/16th of a turn from the way it came. All of a sudden poof, no more diff action.. The screw broke clean. Not sure why. Only thing i know to do know, is im going to try the XXX slipper and buy one more diff (or rebuild kit) and give it another go.. If the diff goes again, Im done. I like really like the way this truck drives on my track, but I dont have the time to rebuild the tranny after every run.. i have already had idler issues.
Dont see a rebuild kit listed... Anyone have a link to another screw (AE?) that may hold this diff together? Also does anyone know what size the screw is ?
anybody have issues with the motor? i was putting my 3rd pack on mine and one of the brushes has broke off and is now sitting by one of the air holes. I have a backup Traxxas motor but was wondering if this was a known issue with the motor.
The ball diff has been working great for me so far. The diff screw is a little weak so you need to take some care and not over tighten the diff. This is what caused the stripped nut and then the broken screw. The melted out center was from the diff being too loose and slipping. This diff is no different then any other ball diff out there. It must be set tight enough so it NEVER slips. The slipper clutch must be set so it gives before the diff does. The ball diff comes with a good set of instructions and tips with it. If the diff and the slipper are both set properly the diff will last a long time. Ask someone who is experienced with ball diffs to help you rebuild it and set up the diff and slipper clutch. It is not hard but helps to have someone who is experienced to show you how to do it once.
My diff screw broke too!WTF?!!!Plastic diff nut?No metal insert nut?"the screw is a little weak?$30.00 for a piece of CRAP ball diff that had NO grease inside it,I did check it and grease it and set it properly.Mine lasted less than 10 minutes! What's next for this Stupid ass joke of a short course truck?Hopefully it will stay together long enough for me to justify not running it over withmy real truck, putting it in a box and sending it back to Losi!
There is a metal insert in the diff nut. Mine has lasted two full race weekends with a 10.5 and is still running strong. This is on blue groove so traction was great. Sorry you have not had good luck with yours.
The sad thing is,that I really wanted to like this thing!I tried to race it at our local indoor track with a 17.5 and only made 4 laps before the self-destruction mode began! Dogbones, servo, idler gear, lost front e-clips,NO crashing! Now the fiasco with the ball diff!I know that there are a lot more people sharing my experience than there are that are having no problems with these trucks.I feel bad for the "new guy" that walks into a lhs and picks one of these up and then quickly decides that this hobby is a joke, when all he needed to do is pick up a Blitz and have a fun time trying to break it!
