novak. they have great motors and i think it is a great low price speedo and motor combo. they have fixed the smoke problem so things are good to go with them.

I sold my Novaks(GTB) off before they smoked..........note: they did smoke!!!!
One smoked after someone wiggled the wheels of thier truck when I wasn't even on!!!
Some people I know have had problems with Havoc systems as well.
I never has a problem(early release of smoke) with my LRPs.
novak. they have great motors and i think it is a great low price speedo and motor combo. they have fixed the smoke problem so things are good to go with them.
From what I seen the have smoked out of the box, it like they work or they don't. There motors are grate I like them but no there escs.
At one point, I was considering the Havoc since I needed an el-cheapo ESC+Motor combo to put into my DF-03 which is my "fun" car... But I read the thread in the electronics section of this forum and it really scared me away at how many defective ones were out there...
I went neither the Havoc nor another Castle, but I tried the Hobbywing Ezrun 60A V2 with the 4300kV motor. This package is very nice. The footprint is small (compared to a giant like the Mamba Max) and the price was just very decent for what it offered...
It runs pretty well. I'd consider the Hobbywings if you need the smaller footprint, otherwise, if space is not an issue, I'd consider a Mamba Max. These things are pretty rugged... Can't say I'm a fan of how the ESC's PCB mounts to the case though... But there are remedies for this...
I know that everyone on here that has an LRP says they are solid as well... I'm a bit of a fan of LRP's product in general, they are quite solid...
Look at Castle's and Hobbywing's products and give it a chance. I know I love both companies....
I've always been a fan of Novak.. and over my nearly 20 years of using them, they have always taken care of any problems. Their customer service is second to none!
As for the early problems of the GTB and then later the Havoc.. they are pretty much over... people aren't smoking them anymore.. You can't say that people haven't smoked LRPs either.. the Sphere goes *POP* if the sensor wire comes off! I've seen that happen many times.
All-in-all.. stick with a name brand you can trust... Novak or LRP should serve you well...
i say LRP for sure..ive ran both and i just like how the LRP performs..ive only had 2 novaks smoke but ) LRP...either way thy are both very good...but also look at tekin

I have ran both.. In my opinion the LRP ESC is the better one of the two.. And Novak has the better motor..
I have a GTB in my spare parts box tho and I would not be afraid to put it back in if something were to go wrong with my LRP. On the other had I will NEVER waste my money on another LRP motor..

I have not had any issues with either of my GTB's but have seen others go up in smoke.
LRP seems to have a better esc but the novak motors are better with out a doubt.
I just changed all of my electronics to Tekin, and by far they are superior to both. Take a look at the RS and Redline motor combos. You will be far better off with the Tekin set up over either of the two choices you listed.
