i am a nitro guy switching to eletric so please help me.
i currently have a mugen mbx5r but am looking to get a completely different car. I want an eletric car but dont know what motors to buy batterys esc chargers or anything so plz help me out. not looking to spend very much money.
What do you want to do with it? As far as batteries go, LIPOs are the best but a good LIPO charger will cost you over $100 and a good battery won't be much less. You can save a little money by using NiHM batteries but at this point, I'd say save yourself some money in the long run and just wait till you can afford a LIPO setup.
A friend let me race his MBX5R with an electric convesion last night. that car drove like a dream, I would just convert the car you have. The one I drove had a 1700kv motor and with a 3s lipo it had plenty of power to hang with the nitro buggies. For the main he put a 4s lipo in and I almost killed a turn marshal with it. It had so much power it just shot over the quad with only a 10' run at it.
It depends what your driving and what you will doing. I built an AE B44 4wd buggy and had no idea what I was doing and bought a Mamba Max 7700Kv Motor which is super duper fast. It may be a good motor for a Slash if your going to bash it around, but for the race track, no good, so now I need to buy a new ESC and slower motor. So no matter what you are going to be racing, find a track thread on this forum and see what cars, motors and esc's they are running. As far as an ESC goes you can't go wrong with an LRP Sphere, the motor you might want to investigate. For off road, slower is faster. I do not know anything about on road racing. Do a lot of research before buying.
You definitely want to get Lipo batteries as they last 10 times longer than NiHMs and you can get a good charger for $80
I just built a B44 and used a mamba max with a 6900kv and using a 2s lipo. I am now building a rc8te with the RX8 system and a 2000kv 4s lipo. You can always get a bigger motor and tune it down a little. Everyone here has been more than helpful. I will tell you that brushless is way more expensive than nitro at the beginning. So be prepared to cry when you spend the coin, and smile at the performance.

I have to disagree with you current king. I think Nitro is more expensive. Electric
B4 - $220.00
Great motor and amazing ESC - $300
Receiver - $100
Servo - $50
2 packs of good Lipo Batts $200
Charger $100
total - $970
Nitro
Associated RC10GT2 - $290 (This is the closest comparable model I can find)
Good Engine - $400
Starter box plus batter $150
Receiver $100
Fuel - $30
2 Servos - $100
charger - $50
Total - $1120
With Nitro you constantly have to tune the engine, be careful not to break it, can only run it seasonally, really messy, hard to tune, bad for the environment and always have to buy fuel
With Electric, you press on and you just go, all your wasting is electricity to recharge your batteries and they usually last years and no tuning of any motors. electric has come a long way in the past few years.
I love both, but since going Electric I cannot see myself going back to Nitro lol
I love the sound of nitro cars and the smell of the fuel, that said....constant tuning headaches, fuel going bad, 15 minute run times and going thru spurs every bash session made it so easy to love electric. Go lipo and never go back 30 minutes plus on my 3s powered rustler at full power and out the box was the fastest rc car I bought to date.
My current build is a x-ray t2 pro powered by a velineon brushless w/3s lipo pack and its a beast compared to my buddies nitro tc3

you can buy a good motor for 150-200 so that brings it to 920 and dont forget tires and all that stuff..now for 8th electric compared to 8th nitro i think 8th electric is more expensive and that comment about hurting the environment...seriously come on lol

+1
And I forgot to Mention Tuned Pipe to add to Nitro cars for another $80 lol
ohh and a glow plug

LOL, I had to throw something in to Dis' Nitro lol I love the smell of fuel being burned, and the sound of the engine, music to my ears! I think 1/8 Nitro will still be more expensive than 1/8 Electric. I bought a 1/10 nitro car kit, put it together (just the roller) then took my B44 around a track for the first time ever now I am trying to sell the kit to buy a 2wd Electric lol. off road all the way for me!!!
lol ya i like nitro but electric to me is just way funner...and if u think about it nitro and electric 8th are about the same pricing..i have a t4 and an 8th and love them both. im thinking about buying a tc5 sometime just for more run time and better riving skills even though off road is WAY more fun for onroad..nothing will beat powersliding around turns right in to jumps

lol, im still learning how to drive around the track. My B44 is all over the place. I stripped some screws so I am having issues fixing some stuff, like greasing the front diff which is squeaky and needs to be rebuilt and greased. and I am having difficulty turning andddd when my car takes off a jump it lands front wheels first almost always. The front of my car is tooo heavy, need to put on some weights in the back to even it out a bit.
