Sphere help

Return it and start from scratch, with either another LRP or something else.
Just throwing a couple of things out there....
Are you using the correct voltage battery?
When soldering the wires to the motor from the esc, besides making sure there in the right order, make sure there is not a small thread of soldered wire, shorting out to the other post.
Timing is set at, I believe, 12 degrees from the factory for lrp motors, at least for the older x11.
all I can think of for now.

It took 30 days to get my new SPX back and if it hadn't been for Sean Cochran I'd still be waiting. AE is out of stock so he sent one he had set back. Now thats good service. I will say this is the first speed control from LRP that I've had trouble with and I've owned 15 or 20 over the years. The new one is working fine.

I've done this before and I had the same problems you had, motor won't spin and the ESC gets stupid hot in a matter of seconds.
Look into that, I bet it is your problem.

Brandon, I would bet good money this is your problem. The solder tabs on the orion motors are very close together. If you are not careful when soldering in the wires, a small bead of solder can get in between the tabs, causing it to short out.

Yea man i could tell it was doing something funny coming down the straight towards me. The wires were warm when i touched them.
I can clean those tabs up for you if you want.
When i send them back i don't call or bother them. I just write a letter with package and if i am time sensitive i will add it nicely. Thing is being my experience with LRP is that they have alot going on where they service them so you can catch them at a crazy time.
Joe i would call them and just tell them you are having a similar out of box failure. They're great pieces and the service is good IMHO and i had to wait 73 days once for a out of box failure pulsar 3 once.

Yea thanks again man, Yea Brad cleaned it up for me, took off all the extra solder and did a nice clean solder job for me, and everything works great thank god.

I had the sphere, but that one is getting repaired since the fire incident, gonna put that one in my 4wheel. I dont know why, but the sxx didn't come with a heat sink, i guess lrp made it so they dont need one?? idk.

Got one last week ....
You have to buy , just do it cus its the best ESC ever ....

smoother on and off power
* timing advance feature is way cool too..
I`m using the stock mode settings out of the box .....
DAIL !!!
Ps
It don`t get hot , the case is made of metal not plastic and serves as a extra heat sink....
