P2K2 Did I lose parts?

I bought a used P2K2 a while back and I was cleaning it up. Forgive me on some of this terminology but I removed the parts that hold the brushes on the end bell? and noticed a small coiled spring going through the black part of theend bell close to the bushing area of the end bell. this I removed and saved. After cleaning and reassembleing motor I noticed a tiny rectangular piece of metal lying on the tablewhere I worked on the motor. Did this come out of the end bell by the spring?
Were there other tiny parts there I didn't see? I didn't remove the end bell from the motor, just the parts described above. What is that spring for anyway? Thanks

I think you are talking about the spring that hold the brush in.

the rectangular thingy your refering to, if there is a wire attached on one end, and arc on the other end, than it's the brush. there are two of them, one one each end.

You have to put the brush in the bell and use the spring to hold it in there.

No. these parts are much smaller. I know what the brushes are and this rectangles piece of metal has no wire and is about the size of the head of a pin.TINY. The spring is coiled all the way like a spring out of an ink pen but much smaller.

Sounds like one of the surface mount capacitors. If you've lost it your motor will be less well supressed, and could cause radio interference, if so, solder on some new external capacitors.

sosidge is correct. The little square things are surface mounted capacitors. There are three of them. There is one under each brush hood on top of each side of the triangle shaped piece held in place by one of the end bell screws and one in the top of the end bell above the triangle shaped piece on the right side with the coil spring on the left side providing continuity between the brush hoods. If you loose any of these, their function can be duplicated by using an externally mounted capacitor to replace the specific one missing. i.e.

+ brush hood to can (brush hood mount screw)

- brush hood to can (brush hood mount screw)

+ brush hood to - brush hood (one held in place by coil spring)
