Slash seem slow
I just got a new Slash to replace my Duratrax Evader EXT. I know, big jump. My problem is the hobby shop told me it would run 30 MPH, 35 with some minor mods. I velcro'd my GPS to the roof, reset the "max speed" and ran up and down my street. 20.8 MPH was as fast as it would go. I'm thinking batteries might be part of the problem, I'm running the same ones I had with the Evader, a Dyna-fun 2400 Ni-Cd 6-cell and a Venom 3000 NiMH. The 2400 is actually faster than the 3000 for some reason. I have a Drift Meister 19T motor that I bought for the Evader, would that help with speed over the stock 12T? I'm new to RC cars but can work on pretty much anything.
Thanks,
Scotty

You can wake it up and get more speed and power by using a 7.4 2cell lipo battery.

I would highly recommend going with a 6 or 7 cell, 7.2v, 4600 MaH btry pack,
This will definately wake up the performance and increase your run time exponentially
the 7 cell packs seems to hit the sweet spot on these vehicles.
also, The ESC for the Slash is good for up to a 15 turn motor, so a higher turn motor may damage the ESC.
Just for giggles, I put a 2000 Mah pack in my Slash, it seemed like it was barely moveing compared to the bigger packs.
Just My opinion.
When looking/working on these things I approach it like a normal car, aside from the obvious, (tires, etc) always start at the electrical system, Btry, connections, wires, etc.

Hey I just got mine yesterday and I run 4600 7 cells only and mine goes well over 20 its really closer to 30mph. the 6 cell doesn't seem to hold the snappy power as long as the seven cell does. We did a test with my losi and my buddys 5700 rustler.
Out of non brushless 1/10 trucks I've driven quite a few this is pretty fast for its size .

I used a 7 cell 4200 Duratrax battery and a 5000 7 cell Piranha. Both work very well with stock equipment, though for the money savings, the Duratrax perform with no noticeable difference to the Piranha (lap times and visual test - No GPS or hard data).
I definitely think you need 7 cells. I upgraded to the Velineon for kicks and it really has a lot of pep, even with the NimH, if you use the 7 cell.

So nothing on the Drift Meister 19T? I've heard that a good 19 is an upgrade from the stock 12T. I might just throw it in and see how she goes, I already have it and it won't cost anything. I am shopping for batteries though, seems like the 7 cell is a popular suggestion.

I've only run 6 cell, but the hot pack at my track is the duratrax 6 cell packs. Great punch and run time. Compared to my venom packs, it's night and day.

IIRC,
The stock ESC on the Slash is good UP To 15t motors.
Going with a 19T may damage the ESC...
If you want some more Umph from the stock motor, I recommend dipping it, makeing sure you lube everything well afterwords and re-install.
My recommendations are based on you stateing that you are fairly new to this and may be a little budget conscious,
If you have the budget to go Lipo, to include the charger, cutoff and brushless, good on you. you can easily spend twice as much on a couple of Btry's, charger and brushless than you did on the truck in the first place.
If you want to keep it budget friendly, parts accessible and keep plenty of run time,
i would get 1-2 extra stock motors, buy some RPM parts (shock towers, suspension parts and play with the shocks and shock oil, in the end you will be much happier and still have some change in your pocket.
Plus if/when you decide to upgrade, you already have parts on the truck that can stand up to the increased power and not break right away.
