And Lipo's, such as a 3s.
With my stock truck before I got a VXL, I had 15-20 minute runtimes with a 7-cell 3300mAh NiMh battery, even in practice before a race.

Edit - in response to a post a few (~5 or 6 above this)

Dont make the mistake that tons of newbies make, they wont the fastest setup. If you do this you will be breaking the hell out of it and it would be uncontrollable. Since you haven't done any mods to your slash yet i would suggest getting a 2 cell lipo with over 4000mah and GETTING A LIPO CUT OFF!! If you don't get the cut off you will fry your $100 battery. With this setup you will get 30min+ runtime and a great boost in power. Once you get the hang of it and can control it you can invest in a vxl brushless setup and get 65+ mph.

You can't put a 3 cell LiPo on the stock ESC...you will fry it. Stock ESC is only rated up to 9.6v

O ma bad i meant 7.4v. Thats what i used to run on the stock esc and i got 30+min runtime. But with the vxl system the 11.1v lipo increases your power by 50% over the 6 cell pack.
