i have a mbx5r and im wanting to go brushless. i found a novak conversion kit and im thinking about a novak hv system or a mamba system. dont know which yet. i have no idea where to start with looking for batteries. i know lipo's but do i need 1 or 2?

my questions are:
which brushless system should i go with
do i need 1 lipo or 2. im lost in the lipo department

I would use the mamba monster and 2 2cell 7.4v lipos of at least 5000mah or more.

FYI, the Novak conversions will only work with Novak motors. Better to find out now than later...

Otherwise i would recommend the Mamba monster for a different converion kit.

You will need to purchase the Caster mud guards too.

I would recomend the Castle MMM 2650 Combo or the Speed Passion 2200/2500 combo

and 2 2s 5000/8000 batteries depending on how long you want to run.

Like mentioned before hand, if you like novak products (I do)
buy the novak conversion and you will be set.

As for the lipos. if your buy a battery pack that is 2s you will need 2 of them as that is a 7.4 volt pack. If you buy a pack that is 4s you will need only one because that is 14.8 volts.

Personally I would buy 2 packs that are 7.4 each because they are more versitle when it comes to putting them into other trucks, buggies or cars. If you buy a 4s 14.8 volt pack your limited to an High Volt application only.

You should email TonyScrews and see what he says. He ran the MBX5R conversion for awhile and can give you great info.

For the most versitality when it comes to different battery sizes, you probably would want the RC Product Designs conversion kit. Very high quality, and can take the long style packs like the Losi 4S hardcased packs.

The Caster Fusion conversion works excellent on the MBX5 and does a great job with weight balance.

Do some homework over on RC-Monster. Those guys post a lot of conversions usually very detail laden. The Mamba Monster v3 is a really popular choice but I'll probably go with the HobbyWing 150A controller for my conversion (MBX5T).

thanks for the help guys. im trying to check out other options. i would probably go with one battery. im wanting to go brushless for the low hassle and enjoyment of the larger scales. im about ready to give up on them. wanting to try a brushless kit first. i was wanting to go with novak because ive had novak before and still have some novak stuff. the 410 is still working fine. i like that dependability. i also hear that they are under powered. which lets me think about that saying "dont build a rocket ship if you cant control it". which also would help with not breaking drive train parts. once i get used to it, ill want more power which can always be changed later. walking before running was the way i grew up so maybe that same thing would work in this case. i do like the better conversion kits with the chassis.
