Default Good basher...

I'm in the market for a decent electric "basher" truck for my son's birthday. I have done some looking and have narrowed it down to three:

HPI Wheely King
Losi High Roller
HPI Brama10

I don't want to get him something too big, he's only 5, so that rules out the Emaxx / Savage type turcks. The HPI are both 4wd which is a big plus, but the Losi has the scale look, w/o the Tamiya price tag.

Looking for any input on the above three from current owners out there. What breaks, what needs upgraded, etc.

the Traxxas Stampede is an awesome basher. It is nearly indestructible.

how fast are you looking for? the brama10 is a buggy so wont handle that well in long grass. the wheelie kind wont be fast at all, but will be able to withstand a lot of abuse, and its 4wd, a plus for a little boy. the High roller is nice, but its basically a modified stadium truck with big tires and a higher CG.

the slash would be nice, but that is also pretty fast for a 5 yr old, and its pretty darn big.

all just my opinion of course.

I second the Slash suggestion. I race at a track where they usually have at least three separate heats of Slash and I almost never see them break. They are tough little buggers!

Plus it gives him something he can use to develop his "driving career" if he so decides to do so in the future. These cars race good. I can't say anything about the other trucks as I have never seen them run but I know that at our track nobody ever drives a Wheelie King, as a matter of fact we kind of rip on them even in the Hobby Shop.

Just my .02 though.

The Slash seems to be the hot ticket these days. How does it handle in the grass being it only 2wd though?

Default slash

It does ok in grass but because its 2wd and has skiny tires it wont do as good as the stampede. I think the stampede is the best bet.

+1, my buddy got his stampede run over y a car but all that was broken were the body posts and the body was dented in and cracked so I'm painting him a new body.

As everyone is saying, go with a vehicle from the Traxxas line of cars and trucks and you will not be disappointed at all.

Kids love Wheelie king's...when he grows out/tired of it, you can use it for a crawler with a few dollars worth of parts...
