I have a ESC that I think is for stock, not sure of motor but know it is a mod. When you try to accelerate it is skiping or going on and off until is gains speed. Once spped is acheaved it runs fast but next corner when back on the throttle it skips or stutters again. Is it because of the mod motor with a speed control for stock. Thanks in advance for any help. This is a brushed system.

Sounds to me as though your esc can't meet the amperage that the motor requires and "turbo lags" until it can supply the amps. Your best bet would be to get an esc that can handle a mod motor. This is an odd problem with a brushed system. It is more common in sensorless brushless systems.

It would have been better if you had posted the esc name and the number of turns the motor has.

anyways, you've got either a shorted winding and/or dirty/burned comm segments in the motor. you may have loose or damaged cappacitors on the motor. There may be an issue with your connectors/battery. when accelerating, low turn mod motors will bring the voltage down too low for the electronics to function IF you have poor batteries and connectors.

the esc doesn't sound like its causing the problem. if the motor was too much for it it will thermal (if equiped with a thermal shut-off which takes a while to reset) or it will burn up. it may still burn up if it is infact for stock, time will tell.

Not sure of the turns but I think I was told 14 and soldered strait to the ESC. The speed control is a duratrax but that is about all I know. Batts and conectors are all new. Truck had been sitting a while and may just need a good cleaning of the motor. I will try it with a good stock motor I have and see if that fixes. Thanks for the replies.

Sounds to me like the motor needs some TLC.

Brushed motors have to be maintained often to keep them running correctly. The problem could be old, worn and/or chipped brushes combined with a comm that probably needs to be cut if it is still any good.

They also need to be cleaned out and oiled often as well...

Take it down to your local track and ask some of the old-timers out there... your local hobby shop will want to sell you a new motor first.. which may be something you might need in the long run.

It's also possible that you are overgeared, too large of a pinion. A 14 turn needs a smaller pinion than a stock motor. How hot does the motor and esc get?
