Which Lipo????

Which Lipo????
I am wnating to get my first lipo. But I have confused myself. I race stock 1/10 truck. What size lipo should I get and what does the C rating mean. Such as 20c 25c etc... I was thinking of getting something around 3200 to 4000mah. Just to keep the price down a little is there a good budget friendly charger out there that is also safe.

C is the max discharge rate. 15C is fine for 1/10 scale, but not recommended for 1/8. I'm racing 2WD truck class w/ $35 batteries. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16867
Those batteries are awesome for the money.
As far as a charger, I think the Triton Jr is probably the best quality at a low price. I recommend buying a nice charger w/ balancing built in for lipo though. Lipo can be dangerous if not taken care of properly, why risk your safety over saving some money. Buy a nice charger.

Lipo C rating is supposed to be the amps the lipo is capable of producing on a continuous basis. A 15C rating on a 4000mah means its should produce (4000/1000 x 15) 60amps. There is also another rating, the burst rating, which is not mentioned as much, but its the current the lipo is capable producing for a short period, usually 30sec. Burst rating is higher than the continuous rating. This example could have a 20C burst rating meaning it could produce 80amps for a short period.
A drawback to lipo is the charger, a diff one is needed and it should have a balancer so the individual cells that hook together to make the batt start at the same voltage. There is less of a chance of overdischarging a cell if the cells start balanced (equal voltage). Overdischarge can damage lipo to the point it is ruined and a safety hazard until properly disposed of.
Good AC/DC charger, has balancer builtin -

I have been using a Hobbywing Tekmodel 60A esc with nimh batteries and has worked very well. The next question I have is will a 20c 4000mh lipo kill my esc or should it be fine. I am running a Novak 10.5 motor.

Go for something like Orion, Checkpoint, SMC, Trakpower etc. They cost a little more but the hard case will reduce the chances that the case is compromised which could cause catastrophic failure.

If a hard case inexpensive LiPo is the goal, I have nothing but good things to say about Yeah Racing packs.
I've used most packs on the market and although some such as SMC do make a difference in an application such as Oval or On-Road racing, for Off-Road racing there is just no noticeable benefit to the more expensive packs.
The 3200 or 4000 are more than enough for stock truck. The 5000 is more than enough for any class you will run. I have one paired to a Novak 4.5 brushless in 4wd mod and it does just fine.

For chargers, a few good budget LiPo chargers would be:
Triton Jr.: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXMAH9&P=ML
or
Multiplex LN-5014: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKSY1
I have used both and currently keep a triton jr in my pit box as a backup to my other chargers. Works like a champ.

Okay, I'll bite. Why recommend a cheap soft case lipo if safety is a concern?

Check out the Turnigy charger from hobbyking.com. I use the Accucel-6 and it's fantastic. For $40, it's a bargain!! It's the same OEM unit as some Venom's and Trinity's that cost about $150.
Also, they sell a 4000mah hardcase pack for $28. It's a steal at this price. The wiring harness it ships with would run you $10 alone!
