Proper Discharging

Proper Discharging
I'm getting ready to use my battery discharger for the first time. Here are the facts:
I own a new rocket pack 4500 and new 3300.
I won't be using them until the spring.
They are both NiMH batteries.
My discharger has a 5.4 cut-off.
My questions are:
How often should I charge/discharge?
In-between charge/discharge sessions should I keep the batteries in a charged state or discharged state?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

Leave them half-charged or so. You want to make sure they don't self-discharge down too far before you charge/discharge them again.
Every month or two, cycle (charge/discharge/half charge) them a couple of times to keep the cells conditioned. Perhaps every 2-3 months, give them a long slow charge at 300ma-400mA for 14-16 hours to help keep the packs balanced.
I've got a bit of NiCd/NiMH cell care info on my web site at http://www.camlight.com. See the Why Discharge? and Tech Tips sections.
