Timing and gearing are the 2 main areas to look for if it's getting very hot. Also, mod motor's will get hot regardles if you are bashing with them for 15 minutes continuous.

gearing is 19 pinon 64 spar, 2 min max before the thremo kills esc

What type of ESC, and what type of car?
Another thing I jsut noticed, Annsman, not exactly high-performance, so that could be part of the problem...

+1 on quality Vs price...
The Ansmaan are a rather budget motor, so the armature may not handle current flow as well as a "good" 19t or modified motor, they are made with price being the main factor.
All you can do is keep the commutator as clean as possible, and re lube the bearings frequently. Use brake cleaner (watch the paint on the can or it may peel off) on the bearings and relube with 1, (yes only one) small drop of light oil.
any more will just leak out and cause more problems with attracting dirt to stick onto the oil and foul the bearing...

You could try going away from the mod motor. A good 19 Turn Stocker would KILL a cheap 15 turn mod, and your heat issues will reduce considerably. Also, with a stock motor they generally last a lot longer before needing a Comm cut.
Even though your ESC says 15 turn limit, it's not a high performer so a higher turn motor will be a lot easier on it ensuring the ESC lasts you a while.
