Food for Thought - Cheaper to run
 

Just thinking: A gallon of fuel (Nitro) equals approx. 3785 cc's . A nitro buggy holds of 125 cc's of fuel. This equals 30 tanks of fuel in the buggy. Runtime per tank is 7 min. 7 x 30 is 210 minutes of run time (3.5 hours) cost of fuel $35.00 a gallon.

Electric buggy: 5s4000mah pack average cost $200.00. Runtime per charge lets say 15 minutes. To run 3.5 hours you need to charge 14 times. To equal the cost you need to buy 6 gallons of fuel to equal the battery cost. (6x35=$195.00) 6 gallons of fuel you can run 21 hours. To run an electric buggy as described above you need to charge 84 times.

The question then comes down to how many charges less or more then 84 can a lipo pack take with full performance...this is the potetnial difference. I woul d say nitro is still cheaper.....your thoughts,

Also since I am new to electric how many hours will a brushless motor run efficiently. A nitro motor will easily run 6 plus gallons.

Nitro includes airfilter(s), oils, glow plugs, starter boxes, and chargers and cells for receiver packs. Bent/broken stingers/pipes, extra time monkeying with engine tuning for humidity and temperature. I think it's more than fuel vs. battery.

Take your nitro out around the neighborhood at 7:00am Saturday morning and see if there is a difference vs. an electric. :nod:

Besides, for those of us who live in the Cold when is winter, we benefit from running Electric, cause many of the area indoor tracks don't run nitro.

While Nitro might be cheaper, do you really want to wait till spring/summer to race, just because you wanted to be cheap and buy a nitro car??:D

Another response similar to the ones she used to give when she was unable to grasp a simple question...I consider my question simple, certainly not highly analytical. I only expressed simple math not even algebra.

before brushless and lipo batteries they used to be comparable.
electric is way cheaper than nitro.
after the initial cost there's the maintenance.
i've never had a .21 last 6 gallons of fuel
if you run gas you still have to have a charger and rec. battery, 2 quality servos, starter box(w/1 or 2 batteries), filters, clutchs, clutch bell bearings, and clutches.
electric you need brushless esc/motor combo, lipo battery, and charger.

bl esc/motor $250----------------nitro motor $200 to $350

lipo battery $89------------------ starter box(1 batt.), rec. batt, $150

quality servo $89 to $179----------- 2 quality servos $179 to $350

do i need to keep going? remember the brushless motors will last way longer than brushed without needing anything other than oil on the bearings.

Ay, Paying 200 for a 5s lipo is a little crazy with zippy and HC being around.

i would say like 130 is more like it.

I run my car 2 times a week and have been doing so for 2 years. I am still running the original Neu motor and have the same battery. The motor runs like new, the battery has lost some punch but it still has enough to run a 15 min main and feels good in the car.
I would go broke buying a gallon of fuel every weekend.

I have a Core 5000 2S LiPo used in my TC and I have well over 500 cycles on it.

The numbers were better a month ago then when I bought it so I have a stronger pack a year later, can't say that about my empty gallon of nitro


It's also cheaper in th sense that my local electric track cost $10 to race and the nitro is $15

man there are not many nitro guys that burn a gallon of fuel every weekend.. i used to run electric full time and did for about 6 years.. since switching to nitro i have spent more on travel and less on equipment. the travel is worth it in my area because there are so many big nitro races and zero big electric races.. i decided if i was going to spend the money i would rather run against 50+ in nitro other than 20 max in electric

I run 1/8th electric and all of the local tracks let me run with the nitro cars, so I have the best of both worlds. Good competition and electric power.
