JConcepts' Bar Codes - Reverse or Not?

So I understand that this is the recommended direction to mount these tires.

However....I've heard reports that some people like to reverse them when running them as fronts. Just curious if someone who has tried them both ways can chime in and tell us the difference. It would also be nice to know what kind of truck they were on as well as some basic setup info.

Thanks!

Your picture does not work!

Anyway The YYY patter is out on the set that I mounted up of the rear of my T4. I was running losi pink tapers all around. on a hard pack track. "FTR in michigan" I cut the outside foam at a small 45 deg angle to fit the tire better and for a more rounded profile.
I noticed more forward bite and about the same side bite on power
Off power it had more side bite.
over all it felt more predictable in the situation I was in.
I have heard that reversing this for the front would give you more steering.
I have not tried this yet. but I have plans on buying a few more gold bar codes to experiment with.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. It would seem that the image host (imageshack) is having trouble. Am I understanding right that so far you have only run them on the rear? If so were you still running your pink tapers up front?

I'm hoping to get to use mine for the first time tomorrow, and I'm trying to decide the best direction to mount the fronts.

I'm in the same predicament gluing these up for my T4. I saw the picture and I thought the original posters picture was correct? VVVV's on the outside, YYYY inside when gluing them up for the rears. Reversal of that for the front?

OK. I changed the pic host. All should be able to see it now.

Someone should do a simple single or double-blind test to see if the driver can truly tell if there is a difference.

I will be buying at least one more set and mounting them in reverse.
I should have an answer for you next wed.

It was posted in the JConcepts part off the offrad section that the "Y" on the outside for the fronts will provide better steering.

Can you provide a link to where you read this. The only thing I could find was a general statement saying that mounting the tires the recommended way would increase side bite. But it did not say anything about using them as fronts.

Plus I would tend to think the opposite might be true for fronts since the outside edge of the outside tire only touches in hard cornering.

Did JConcepts change the Bar Codes for the buggy ? Mine are like the inside edge of the picture on both sides

If you are talking about Truck Bar Codes.. it is a setup option...

However, I prefer the 'hard' side to be inside for fronts, outside for rears.

The buggy tires are not directional. They're the same on both sides.
