From what I heard you can give it to much power because the power will never reach the ground, I think a 10.5 would be as low as you would want to go and give you plenty of power for racing and bashing.

Just stick with stock esc and motor, but switch to a 2cell li-po and go to 20 on your pinion. Plenty fast and you'll be able to race both spec and mod

I'm not really lloking for something to do double duty. We race 100% stock spec with 3800 max stick packs. I want insane to be honest. I race my 808 and the stock slash. I want something nutz for when I cant get to the track. Also I dont really understand the whole kV thing. Higher number is more power
? Ask me about nitro and I will tell you but electrics I have to defer.

Arrow 5700/6900

slaytanic,

Having read your posts, get a CastleCreations Sidewinder/5700 Combo if you want mildly insane and cost is a factor, $116.06 shipped right now from Bishop Power Products. Or get the MMax/6900 Combo if you want more insane and cost is not a factor, $161.06 right now at the same place. The MMax/ 5700 Combo is also an option. The Slash will not allow either motor to get all its power to the ground but I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun disproving that.

The MMax ESC is more efficient and can power higher KV(rpm/volt) motors or motors with more load so its more versatile as it lends itself for use on other more demanding applications like heavier trucks and 4WD.

I also read somewhere else in this forum that CastleCreations ESC/Motors are now ROAR mod legal.

With the Slash it's hard to achieve insane, because you just cannot keep power to the ground. I have seen the VXL system and it's silly fast with a 3cell but he just goes back and fourth doing speed runs.

i have had the slash sience christmas, i put some new tires on to keep more power to the ground, i run on a gravle road or a dirt track so i put pro-line bow-ties on, i also have a pair of tires that are close to the t-maxx tires but in a 2.2 (these are very old tires and are not made anymore).

I don't have enough history with other combos out there to say it is "the best" combo, but a Mamba Max or even the Sidewinder and a Traxxas VXL 3500 motor is a very solid combo.

In a Traxxas Rustler (same gear box as slash) I burnt up a CC 5700 in 1 weeks time, although I did over gear it a tiny bit. Even when used with the stock gearing, the CC 5700 was always blistering hot. The Traxxas brushless runs SOOOOOoooo Much cooler.

The VXl doesn't have the RPM the CC 5700 does, but you can make up for some of that with gearing. My opinion the VXL motor has more useable power for off road bashing....

I picked up a new in the box VXL motor for $50 on eBay.

If your just bashing with it the VXL ESC would probably do you fine. I have seen them on eBay andmhere in the F/S section for around $130 and up.

I like the computer tunability of the MM ESC. Very nice for bashing as you have total control over the "out of the hole power" the punch control option allows you to dial it down a bit, sOoyou don't spend most of your run upside down.

I have to agree with a couple of you guys, the Mamba Max and the VXL are an awesome combination. I tried about seven different motors and esc combinations and the nothing stays as cool and pumps as much power as this combo. The slash is a relatively heavy vehicle compared to most 1/10 scale setups, when I was running a 7700kv motor in it even with a low gear ratio i was melting labels off my battery packs and the motor was gettin red hot. Stick with a motor under 5000kv and you should be fine.

Cheers,
Chris
