Slash Rentals...

I had an idea a few weeks back to put together a fleet of Slash rentals for the local track. Here's my thoughts, maybe someone else can use the idea at their track.

The general idea was to get people to try RC. Up to this point getting someone to the track to try out a car would generally involve borrowing someone's car or dropping the $$ to buy everything. Neither of which made it easy for someone to try out the hobby to see if they liked it or not.

I talked to a few people I know who own businesses and came up with a sponsorship package (I currently have 1 sponsored car, with 2 more waiting to see this before signing on).
For the sponsorship fee, the business gets:
- RTR Traxxas Slash
- Tnt-Fx Wrap featuring their business
- Tnt-Fx Banner to hang at the track featuring their business

Rental fees are structured to maintain the vehicles, add extra revenue to the local track, and give a little something to charity.

Rental fees:
Option 1: The Test Drive - $5 (Plus Track Fees)
- 10 minute run with the Slash of your choice
- Test Drive can be upgraded to Option 2

Option 2: The Race - $25 (Plus Race Fees)
- Rent the Slash for a full race day

$2 of each slash rental will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to find a Cure for breast cancer.

The hope with this is to get people to try out RC racing...if they like it hopefully it can drive more people to the local shops and tracks. This program is JUST now getting started, so I don't know how popular it will be.

They do this same type of thing at my local carpet track. It is in a mall and they get lots of mall shoppers to try out RC, the cost is $5 per battery. Slashes are way cooler though.:D

Battlefront r/c where the region5 roar race was ran in Grand Rapids,Mi has been doing this for a while now.The rental slash's have grown the class and the hobby, that's for sure.

Great idea. Wish I had the $$ to sponsor one. Good luck!

25 For and the race fee... JOKE! why would somebody spend 45-50 dollors on a Truck that they will drive once. I would have the race fee included.

I agree that $25 should include the race fee. You could also make that its own class rather than throw them in with all the other slashes. I think that would increase your chances of getting groups to come out and race. Now you could allow exceptions and let anybody who rents one to run with the regular guys if they want to.

I also don't think you should charge them for broken parts unless they were deliberately out there having a crash up derby or something like that. After all they may end up renting a car that already has a cracked part on it and it breaks under normal driving conditions. I'm sure most people would offer to pay for the parts anyways and if they do that's fine but I wouldn't make it a requirement.

Obviously Porkey you've never played paintball, gone skiing or done a similar expensive hobby. A day of paintball will easily cost you $80+. A day of skiing...probably close to the same. Most of the time people who rent this type of equipment fall into one of two groups.

Group 1: I'm renting because a friend/relative is going.
Group 2: I want to try it out because I may want to do this myself and want to try it out before I sink big $$ into it myself.

If the price is found to be too high then no one will rent them. If that happens the price gets dropped.

If they watch them and want to try them they'll pay the price. The $45-50 is for a full race day, right? I don't think thats really a bad deal at all.

I say $25-30 for a race day....if they don't try it, they might not want to do it.

Rental, race fees, charging & use of batteries all included.

If you want to charge a higher price, perhaps some sort of coupon or discount for buying one at the local hobby shop. aka....pay 40$ to race 1 day, get a 25-30$ coupon off your Slash purchase.
