Hi Everyone,

My name is Rob, I have been racing at Pegasus for the last couple of months. I have a friend, Steve Measer, who has been suffering from Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma for about the last 2 1/2- 3 years. He has had 17 chemotheapy treatments and is now very limited on how many more he can have as the human body can only take so much. Steve is in need of Blood and Bone Marrow donors.

I am having a Blood and Bone Marrow drive through the City of Hope in Steve's name. The event will be held on Tuesday Nov. 18th from 1pm til 7pm. The location is the Temple Ami Shalom in West Covina, 3508 E. Temple Way.

The Bone Marrow donation consists of using Q-tips to swab the inside of your mouth on both sides. The Q-tips are then placed in an envelope and sent for DNA testing. The kit is provided by the City of Hope. The process takes approximately 15 minutes.

The Blood donation is done the usual way, through the arm while laying on a bed. After the blood is taken, you must sit down for 15 minutes prior to being able to leave. The City of Hope provides water, juice, and snacks during that time. The donations are put into a National Registry and you may be a match for other cancer patients if not for Steve.

I realize this is late notice, but the original plans for the event didn't get the response we thought it would get. You can choose to give both types of donations or which ever one you would like to do.

The City of Hope will need a donor count from me by Monday afternoon. If you would like to be a donor, PLEASE PM me ASAP. Let me know what time you can make it (1-7pm), along with your full name and phone number. If you do not feel comfortable providing that info, then just let me know what time and that you will definately be there.

You can also PM me with any questions you may have. I am also hoping to do another event soon after this one, but the faster the donations are done, the faster a match can be found. Each day is very critical. There is a link to the flyer below, if I did it right.

Do you know if its possible to donate here in Florida and if it's a match have it sent to Steve?

I believe you can get the donor kit from www.marrow.org sent to you. You might be able to say that you are doing the donation for Steve, but if you are not a match for him, you may be for somebody else in need.

For anyone who wants to be a Bone Marrow Donor, you have to join at www.marrow.org. I just found out that the kit is $52. But if you want to PM me your address, I think I can have my contact at the City of Hope send you the kit for $0.
