Default XXX-t gearing (best combo with a 14 turn single)

I have a xxx-t and loving it for many years.Got married and boxed it up. Just recently took this old boy out of my closet and needless to say a lot has changed since I was racing back then. I am running a trinity colbalt 14 turn single flat with 1900 nicd batteries. Does anybody have any input on what spur/pinion gear size to go with. I was gonna go with like a 87/21 but then i'm not sure being it's a single should i up the pinion to a 23 or even a 24. Any xxx-t owners with a 14turn single let me know what you would do. I am looking for speed but don't wanna burn my batteries up and put to much strain on the motor. It will be offroad 90% of the time i clay/stone screening. I want as much speed without compromising to much torque. I know i can't have both but I am curious with you all think.

Thanks
Danny

If you use the 8 over rule of thumb you'd be at a 22 tooth pinion. I don't know if I'd go that high in a truck. I'd maybe start at 21 like you said and see if it winds out at 3/4 of the length of the straightaway. Obviously keep an eye on temps. If the temp is high - gear it down.

Think i'm going to get the 22 and see how it works. Do you know if they sell metal diff gears for the xxx-t? will the losi desert truck rear fit on the xxx?

No need for metal diff gears as long as your diff is set right.
The dessert Truck runs a gear diff where the xxx-t runs a balll diff.
Losi's website has downloadable maunals for the xxx-t. The gearing chart should be on the 4th page or soo.
Btw IF you want more speed Try some new Batterys / Nicads?!
You can buy a decent nimh Pack for 25 dollars. Your battery is what is holding you back TRUST ME .
