MaxAmps, DuraTrax, or Venom NiMH Packs?
I'm looking at 7 cell NiMH packs for my upcoming 16.8V E-MAXX purchase. Which brand would be best to go with?
MaxAmps 4700mAh 7 Cell DuraTrax 4600mAh 7 Cell Venom 5000mAh 7 Cell I originally planned to go with Venom, but I'm wondering if MaxAmps would be a better NiMH pack. Opinions? |
Neither, Go with the orion 7 cell rocket packs.
Lipo would be better though. IMHO |
Orion Rocket Packs are 6 cell 7.2V. I'm looking for 7 cell 8.4V, but thanks for the suggestion.

Ours will have a higher initial voltage and they will also hold it longer than the others. But I would honestly go Li-po you'd be better off.
Just my two cents......... Jason |
I appreciate the LiPo suggestion. I already run a LiPo powered Losi Speed-T that I love, but I'll be keeping the E-MAXX mostly stock. The speed control doesn't come with a LiPo cutoff built-in, so that would mean a new speed control to be able to run LiPo packs.
The MaxAmps NiMH packs sound like the way to go. Is there any sort of warranty on those packs? Would the DuraTrax Onyx 240 dual charger be a good one for those packs? |
If you are into building packs go to www.cheapbatterypacks.com . I recently bought their 5000mah cells for 1/12 and they are REALLY good. They also have an option where they will build them for you, so you can pick which 7 cell configuration you want(hump, shotgun tube, etc.)

That is because they recently stopped selling them . Some stores still have them in stock , like Tower .

JAM MaxAmps, your 6 cell nommatched batteries (doesnt display matching numbers on website with your cells) are over $70 and you dont even know the specs of them. For $59 I could get an Ener-g 4600 matched plastinum battey, aseembled with Deans connectors with 440+runtime and 1.235+ voltage. Overpriced? YES!!!!!

Cheap battery packs.com is 54.18 for elite 5000 prebuilt with 14 awg wire and female deans for a 7 cell pack OR 49.00 for the you build it 7cell count. BUT he does give discounts if you order a few at a time on the prebuilt packs. As for quality all I can say is if they keep pace in a 4cell 1/12 car they will definitely work much better than an orion rocket pack! And yes I have tried the orions-overpriced garbage-

I wouldn't use Max Amps on a bet! I tried one order with them (a 3s lipo) and it took over a week to even process, then they short shipped the order (I also ordered plugs / harness etc), The battery lasted half a run before the negative lead came unsoldered and they dicked me around on a refund!
Not even Cheapy Venoms do that! Maxamps seem to have a huge following in the USA (propaganda / advertising will do that, people can be bought) but I don't know of anyone internationally who'll have a bar of them. |
