The ICE is a great competition quality charger. However if you're looking for a lot of bang for the buck check out this Turnigy. Keep in mind there will be a fair amount of shipping due to it coming from China.

If you would like something that doesn't require a separate power supply I've seen many people that have been very happy with this Onyx.

All these chargers will also do LiPo batteries. A feature that you will definitely want in the future.

Keep in mind that if you do choose a charger like the ICE or Onyx, that they do not have a balancer built in. When/if you get lipo packs you will want to have some way of balancing the pack. If you choose a charger without a balancer you will need to purchase something like this Electrifly balancer.

Enjoy!

Check out the Hyperion DUO. It will charge two batteries, LiPo and NiMh, has AC and DC power inputs (can charge from your car battery in the field) and has built-in balancers. It costs a chunk of money but has a lot in a single unit and you will spend that kind of money for the individual components.

+ 1 on the Hyperion DUO It also has PC upgradeable software. Get a good charger, you will have it a long time.

The DUO is a great charger, but it does require a powersupply. It will not run off AC power.

IMO
I really like my MRC 989. It charges lipo's/ Nmh/ has many functions. 24 different profiles. Has it's own power supply, only use for charging.

And best of all it's about 150

The turnigy will be hard to beat for the money given its capabilities, even with shipping from China. Another option - hyperion 06060i AC/DC charger - has everything needed to balance charge lipos and charge/discharge NiMHs.

Howie, I am buying my son a new charger and I hve a couple of LRP chargers that I could sell you. I have an older LRP Comp, that charges up to 7 amps, not a lot of options, but works great on NiMH's, I also have a Sport 2 model, that has discharge capabilities, break-in motors, if your running brushed and goes beyond 7.0 amps. I can save you some cash-ola , then in 6 months from now, your son and yourself are more knowlegable, then you can move into a higher grade model, if needed. Let me know. FYI..Does not handle LiPo's...

This seems to be popular around here and no need for a power supply
