4WD....what is everyone running for a buggy?
 

I would like to get a 4WD for a 2nd class, and I'm a huge Losi fan, but I just don't think belt drive is the way to go. It may have been fine a couple years ago, but with new LiPo's and brushless, I am thinking it is a bit too much power than Losi anticipated going threw the drivetrain.

The main vehicles I am looking at are the B44, Kyosho Lazer, and Academy right now. I am not a huge Associated fan, so I lean toward the other brands initially.

Is thee anything else out there that is competitive worth looking at?

I run brushless and a Lipo in my XXX-4 and it runs great!

I would look at the Hot Bodies D4, drove one a while ago and was very impressed!

The Hot Bodies D4 is great car that is very durable, I run at the top of the field with it every race night.

I'm running a B44 and love it. For the price, I don't think there is anything out there this good. In the belt drive options, there would be the Yokomo MBRX worlds. or if you don't mind uopgrading some parts (cause it's an entry level racer), the new Yokomo B-max which is drive shatf driven and is supposed to be a great car. The schumacher catSX (belt drive) and hotbodies D4 (shaft) are race worthy from what I've read. .But these will certainly be more exopensive than the B44. For price and parts availability, I'm happy with my B44!

I run a B44 and Iam very pleased with it I havent had a bit of trouble besides ballcups which is always associateds worst problem but is only a 5 dollar fix
I have seen the hot bodies D4 go and it seems to be a solid buggy to
I have heard the Kyosho is having some spur gear problems but people have found a different gear to fix the problem
I have seen a couple Academy buggys go and seem to be solid to but heard there setup was hard to get down

So I would go for the B44 first then Hot Bodies second and then the Acadamy but for the Losi XXX4 stay away from it there is way to much maintenance then should be needed and you wont have a big enough tool box for the spare parts it takes

I run a B44 myself. All stock, stock setup, stock tires. Only need to add the rear swaybar and it's dialed! Other car I've seen racing are the Tamiya TRF501X and DB01 Durga (yes! a Durga! this car TQ'd the last time I raced), Hot Bodies D4, Losi XX-4's, and Kyosho Lazer's.

if you are looking for a shaft driven buggy then go with the lazer
i used to own one but sold it recently as im more towards my db01 now
i usually have problems with the spur and pinion always chewing each other
by the way whats wrong with belt driven buggies equipped with burshless system and lipo?? i dont see anything wrong with it, at least thats how i ran durga :D

I also have been considering a RTR Lazer, and selling off the electronics to drop the rolling chassis cost down....It's just a 2nd class for fun, so if it breaks, then upgrade that part....

I will toss the XX4 in the mix. I have a Lazer also, but it is collecting dust while I run my Lipo/Brushless XX4. Great handling car.

If you don't know how to tune then go with the b44, odds are it will be the most popular buggy at your track. If you know how to tune then go w/ the sbv-2 pro. I believe its the most durable 4wheeler and the chasis allows you to really lay out things to achieve tons of different setups.

SP is the best bang for your buck 4wd on the market. It is dialed out of the box and needs nothing. I don't understand how this car gets so little love on this board.

i have an original/standard zx-5 roller for sale. I need to replace the front right arm and hinge pin but once i do (this week) it'll be ready to roll. Heres some pics before i cleaned it all up...

note: it is MUCH cleaner now. Ive removed all the electronics and gone through it with simple green and a small paintbrush. PM me if you have any other questions on it.


I know plenty of people that run that buggy and its upgraded versions and love it.

B44s the go....first time out and the buggy felt great. Now all i need to do is fine tune the setups to get some quicker times. there's really not much you need to do as you will see with the limited tuning variables

If you are a huge Losi fan...then you should look at KyoshoUSA products because that is where Losi (the person) is at now. There are no more Losi family members at the Losi company.

I just got a Lazer ZX-5 RTR and the local hobby stores carry parts for them.

Local parts support should be one of the narrowing factors in choosing your next rig. Here in Southern California, the ZX-5 and B44 are the most supported 4WD 10th scale buggies.

What do you think of the ZX-5 RTR out of the box so far? My track prob will only carry limited parts support, so I would just have to order a few things here and there that might break....

Kyosho Front & Rear Suspension Arms (ZX-5) are 4.29$ for a side. I'm not sure if the material between the kit & RTR are the same, but can afford to get a few sets of these to keep around as well.....
