Default Traxxas Bandit VXL or DF03MS?

I'm thinking of getting an electric buggy to add to my collection of cars. Currently thinking of either the bandit VXL or DF03MS. Both are within my budget though the Bandit will come with everything and the Df03Ms will only come with kit. Which one would be a better choice?

Nobody can help you decide really as there are too many factors.

If you can answer these questions, you'd have a better idea where you're headed.
1. What other cars are in your collection? Do you already have a 4wd buggy or 2wd buggy? Do you already have a Traxxas or Tamiya, so you share parts between cars?
2. What parts can you get locally? Tamiya or Traxxas?
3. Are you going to be racing, and in what races.
4. What equipment do you already have and do you mind the hassle of swapping the electronics in and out of cars?

Frankly, if it's available in your area, I'd also take a look at the Kyosho ZX-5 RTR.

1. I have 6 other drift cars & spy car.
  • Tamiya TT01
  • Tamiya TA05-IFSR
  • ABC Hobby Genetic
  • Tamiya TRF EVO5MS
  • Yokomo Ichiroku M
  • Spy car
2. I do not have a buggy. I can get certain Tamiya parts locally. Traxxas will have to order online.
3. No intention to race.
4. Swopping of equipment will depend on my budget for that month. Most of my top end ones will have individual ESC & motors.

BTW, I've already ordered the VXL thru towerhobbies at $268.97 USD. Since it's pretty cheap considering it has the receiver, transmitter, ESC & motor thrown in.

It has been a VERY LONG TIME since I have had anything Tamiya so maybe things have changed, that being said. Traxxas is a far better choice in my mind. There are two Rustlers in the house here both with Mamba systems in them. The trucks have been heavily modified and are very durable and versatile. The Bandit is very similar to the Rusty and I am sure will be a good addition to your collection.

I have a Bandit VXL - fun buggy, but rediculously overpowered with lipos. I have 2 ounces of weight on the front between the stub axles and it still won't turn under throttle. NiMh packs help a bit here, adding weight and taking out some of the punch.

The VXL has way too much torque for something with no front end weight. I'd suggest dialing a bit of low end throttle out through your transmitter if you have one to replace the stocker.

Need help.

I just bought a Bandit VXL. It's fitted with #3677 mount. If I want to install the wheelie wheels, Can I get #5186A and mount them direct onto the #3677 or do I need to buy #3678?
