Sealing Your Diff or Shock Caps (Traxxas Slash)
 

I see a lot of people asking how to seal their diffs and their shock caps (some suggest teflon tape, but it has been my experience that teflon tape disintegrates from exposure to the shock oil) after they put oil in them (like the Traxxas Slash). Well, this is not a permanent solution but it is cheap and does last quite a long time. And it is easy to take off when wanting to change the weight or refill it.

Clear RTV Sealant from your local auto parts store....

Just get some smeared on the outside of the diff or the lower edge of the shock cap, after it is filled and screwed back together (not too much, but not too thin either)....and you're all done!:nod:

And don't worry about it throwing off the weight of the diff as it doesn't weigh hardly anything...

Diffs have gaskets and o-rings to keep them sealed and unless the shock and /or cap threads are worn you shouldn`t need anything .

I get dirt in my rear shocks, the oil is pretty nasty when I change it. But I think the dirt is getting in from the shafts.

After running the car take a tooth brush and clean around the shock shafts and bodies helps keeps the shocks in better working condition longer too. and o-rings will last longer too!:nod:

Diffs as mention have gaskets or the electric diffs before closing apply a little grease to the diff case halves before closing then wipe access off!:nod:

if you maintain properly sealant should never have to be used.... dirt will get into the shocks over time..

That may be true for most, except the Traxxas Slash....and the shocks leak as well with Aluminum caps. Guess I should have labeled the discussion "Slash Diffs and Shocks..."

Slash diffs are meant for grease and is why they are not sealed . You must have a bad set of shocks .
