I think I'm on pretty safe ground saying that the Novak motors are really damn reliable. They've been around the longest and they have the least drama from what I've seen.
The Speed Passion (and all the other places that use them for their own...) motors are pretty cool because they can be torn down all the way and serviced/cleaned easily...they don't really seem to be any faster. From what I've seen, they're all really close, speed-wise.

Does anybody make a trusted motor dyno that we can get a magazine to do a shootout with?
What 17.5 motors would you like to see be tested?

In addition, due to tolerances in manufacturing you WILL get some 10.5s or 13.5s from the same brand that don't run the same. One may be a screamer, another may be totally average.
This was taken from an RC blog:
"We did send this out in a news letter but for those that do not subscribe, here are some facts. We where doing some testing on brushless rotors with tools that show digital readouts of the magnetic fields for the Novaks and Orions. We discovered that the Novak rotors seemed to have a much more consistent magnetic field, but was 15 - 20% lower on average compared to a Orion rotor. However the Orion rotors did have a higher field on the best we tested but where more random. Of course the magnetic field is by far not the only factor to take into account. The diameter of the rotar, timing, bonded/sintered, windings and thickness of the windings, etc."
