Arrow Rustler VXL -- 8.4v 3000mah Nimh Vs 7.4v 4000mah Lipo

I have a stock Rustler VXL, except spectrum radio. Currently I am running a 7 cell 8.4v nimh battery. Would I see much improvement if I got a 4000mah 2s 7.4v Lipo. My funds are limited but I would like to see more speed.

Thanks for any input.

increased running time, not increased speed.

you'd be going from 8.4v to 7.4v.

I'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure that's right. I'm sure we'll see a second opinion.

I know the voltage is less but with Lipo I think I can draw more amps. I don't know for sure.....thats why I'm asking the question.

Ok, thanks for your fast responses. I'll just wait until I can afford a 3s Lipo.

Depending on the quality and age of your NiMH pack, you may see a speed and runtime increase with a 2s lipo. It really depends on how well your batteries hold voltage when they are under load.

It is just a Venom 7 cell NiMH pack, Fairly new though and does seem to be pretty quick.

The performance of the 4000 Lipo and your 7-cell will probably be about the same except for the lipo will be lighter which may give you a little more performance. Here is a plot of my new lipo vs my older matched NiMH packs.

These were descent race packs at one point and still tons better than a orion sport pack that I bought for my dad.

To be sure that you get more speed, get a 3s when you go lipo
