I'm not a Novak expert, but I know the newest ones have lipo cutoff. How old is the speedo? And the Orion 4800 is a very nice nice lipo if you're buying one used. Theres no sense in buying a new 4800 because the newer version, the Orion Platinum TWO which has 5000mAh is due out anytime now.

I'm also in need of a 2s Lipo for 1/10 scale racing purposes, mainly a B4 with Mamba Max 5700. I think my battery requirements are the same as the OP, so we both could use some advice. :P

It'll be my first Lipo pack too...

Well, THESE Trakpower 4900's are all I use and theyre as good as it gets. Theyre every bit as good as the Orion Platinum for a lower price. My LHS special orders them for me for 100 bucks, and thats way less than an Orion. Plus these keep a higher voltage which is better for higher turn motors. The Orion's voltage drops a little more which for some reason is better for mod, I cant remember why but I dont run mod so I dont care. But Trakpowers have Enerland cells in them, those and the Kokam cells in the Orion's are the two best "premium" lipo cell makers. Hope that helps.

I like the A123 (lithium nano technology) batteries, no cutoff circuitry needed: http://www.rclipos.com/A123_Packs.htm

and they are SAFE!! See this video of Lipo vs A123 being hit with a nail gun!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9ayuFBDrSg

Holy crap, I remember you telling me about this test at the track about the A123 cells... I really love the second half of the video where they showed the nail penetration of the Li-ion nail test... Scary...

I've been running Orion "Race Spec" 3600 mAh LiPos in both my B4 and T4 all season and I couldn't be happier with them. Super lightweight, 25C rating and plenty of run time.

A123's are great, but they haven't really been embraced by the r/c world yet. Their size and voltage is still a bit unconventional.

I wish the forces that control the EP racing world would keep up a little.

No A123's makes baby Jesus cry.

Also consider Maxamps. Great batteries built to order, and outstanding customer service.

I run Orion, Track Power, and Max Amps packs. I have never had any issues with any of them.

If you want a Platinum, jump on one or both of THESE.
