How often do you have a Ballcup pop off?

During a race or practice, how often do you have a ball-cup pop off?

If it happens once, all the ball cups get replaced. They're cheap and there's no worse feeling than losing a race because the cheapest part of your vehicle failed.

If they pop off again, then all the ball studs get replaced (they wear out too).

Never. I replace them when they get sloppy. After 2-3 times replacing the ball cup, I replace the ball stud.

Rarely and i replace them if the bend or break.

I agree with the others.

It's a "problem" that seemingly only rookies have.

d4man 07-14-2008 09:29 AM

Not necessarily a rookie problem, but maybe a guy who bashed the hell out of his vehicle and then decides he wants to race it.

So what I am hearing is that it is a big enough concern that you guys have very specific rules when to replace them.

never

It's not that it's a "big enough concern" at all ~ it's called routine maintenance of a cheap plastic part that if ignored, or expected to last forever, will leave someone oblivious to the possiblity on the sideline wondering "WTF again ??" ...

better to have a ball cup "pop" off then replace a broken part.....;)

I had one pop off this weekend during one of my heats. Thankfully the corner marshall who picked up my car was able to pop it back on and I was on my way. Thats the first one that had popped off on my XXX-CR, I find the ball stud will shear off before the ballcup pops off.

not sure if these are the right size.. but this will prevent them from popping off... i used to use them and loved the fact that i didnt have to worry about ball cups popping off..

If you drive smoothly and carefully, and dont smash into anything, then you wont have to worry about ballcups, except for when they get sloppy.

With the XXX buggies, they still handle good with a lot of slop.

I replace the ball cups when they get nasty. I like nice, clean looking, smooth parts. If they're sloppy and crunchy, i replace 'em.

At my LHS, I always carry some needle-nose pliers, and when Rookie Joe comes around the corner, and smashes into the wall again, i'm ready to put the ball cups back on.

My 2 cents.
