DUDE! You are making this WAAY harder than it needs to be. If you haven't replaced your diff gear in a while, theyre less than three bucks so REPLACE IT. I dont know if these rings are flat on both sides? If not, go get you some 320, 600, and 1000 grit paper. Start with the 320 and work your way up until theyre flat and smooth. Do you even know how to install the beveled washers?????? Theyre shaped like bowls. Stack them like SIX bowls inside one another, THEN place them so that the BOWL SIDE FACES AWAY FROM THE DIFF NUT CARRIER! Then rebuild your diff like has been stated NUMEROUS times in this thread.
Well there is 3 bumps on one side of the diff gear and when I put a outdrive on there it feels gritty.
I'm a little confused on this.... Where are the bumps? The side of the gear really doesn't touch anything. I'd take it apart, clean everything really good with a toothbrush and motorspray. Re-assemble it slowly and feel how smooth the diff is... as you tighten it, you may start to feel it get gritty if there's a problem. When you're holding the diff, outdrive in each hand you should be able to push the outdrives togethers and rotate the sides in opposite directions and it should feel smooth.. that checks the rings. Then pull the outdrives apart and spin and that checks the thrust bearings.... that's a crude way to check but it will show any issues.

You know where the holes are the put the diff balls in? Well b there only a little further in there is 3 bumps on the diff gear. If I put 1 outdrive on the other side it is smooth, but when I put it on that side it feels gritty.

I have say 15 runs on my diff gear. yes they are flat on both sides. Yes I know how to do the whole thrust assembly and diff gear.
What about the beveled washers, did you put those in correct? You cant just put them in there willy-nilly as they go a certain way. The diff is like a puzzle, a very simple puzzle, and when you dont put them together right theyre not going to be as smooth as they should be.
Chris
Your rings are flat on both sides. Do Not sand them.
To add to Scott's GOOD advice. assemble the diff, outdrive and thrust, tighten it together so it is just a little wobbly (the outdrives will wiggle). Now as scott said, push the outdrives toward the gear and turn them opposite each other. Smooth? Now pull the outdrives away from each other and turn in opposite directions. Smooth?

I appreciate your help with my customer's issues. But like I said "my customer". It is clear that it upsets you that Chris is having some problems and maybe doesn't understand what is being sent at him. Please tone down your posts or cease them all together.

I know how to put the beveled washers on. Put the one one with a smaller hole on 1st, then the out thing, then the thrust bearing, then the in, and the bigger beveled washer. I know how to put a diff together. I have had 4 Losi vehicles and took the diff apart on all of them. I am pretty sure they are put together right, I even double checked the manual. I am pretty sure it is the diff gear as there is bumps on it and when I put a outdrive on it it feels gritty.
Both sides of the gear should the same. If one side has bumps that stick out enough to hit the ring try scraping them off. While you are waiting on the new gear to arrive you might be able to use it. Be careful not to mess with the holes where the balls go. You need to figure out where the bumps came from. I am assuming the bumps were not there before the rebuild. Did the balls come out during assembly? If a few balls were not in their pockets and the diff screw was tightened down the balls would distort the gear. Order a new gear. Take your time when doing any assembly or disassembly work. i have learned that the old saying "haste makes waste" is often true.
I'm pretty sure the bumps are just the molding flashing from manufacturing. All the diff gears have them, just some more pronounced than others. I've had a "bad" one before, but usually they're flush. Try a new gear for $2.50.
I just put my new diff together with the whole XXXCR kit. Holy smokes!!!!!!!! Your product, and the Mudd Slide diff lube I always use, has made my diff feel silky smooth. Like I posted before, I was getting very frustrated with the new Losi diff configuration. I don't know which of 3, rings/balls/thrust bearing, did the trick but it's amazing. Can't wait to race this weekend.
