I took my truck out in the street just to give it a test run.

With a 5.5 geared at 18/78 it got to about 170 °F in under 3 mins . So I tried it geared at 16/81 and it was about 155 °F in about 5 mins. That was just criusing around in the street though, so I'd hate to see it on a track.

I didn't realise that I could get an 81 on there, but it still isnt enough. Any ideas? I tried an 84 and it was rubbing on the outdrives.

If you can't gear higher than that, there is something wrong. Were you test runs high-speed runs? If so, that will make for a hotter motor as you don't generally run at full very often on the track. Paul and Jeremy hsve run theirs geared higher than that with mod motors.

Try a 16/78 that should put you really close.

Thanks for the reply.

Test runs were just driving around on the street with only one or two highspeed runs.

When I say I can't gear lower it's because anything bigger than an 81t spur rubs on the outdrives, and anything smaller than a 16t pinion and the mesh will be too loose as I can't push the motor back any further.

I tried a 6.5 at the track yesterday with 16/81 and it was ok, still got pretty hot after 5 mins (Didn't temp it but I couldn't hold my finger on it for more that 4 to 5 seconds.)

I don't know how you guys aren't cooking motors running 5.5's at 84/21 and 6.5's at 78/21.

BTW, The truck was awesome at the track. Felt unreal compared to the T4, even with a poor choice of tyre.

Paul is running 21/78 with his 6.5. Brian and Alex have both run right about that equivalent too. With a 5.5 you'w probably be down to a 19t pinion but not down to 16t. It could be that you are geared too low. If you are geared too low, the motor is over revving and that will heat a motor up also. Try Paul's gearing. If you are still overheating there is something wrong somewhere else. What motor/esc/battery combo are you running?

Also, the on-street test is not as good as you'd think. Asphalt is pretty high bite so the motor will heat up quicker.

I see, I'll head up to the track again this week and do some more testing, I think I know where you're coming from with the gearing too low.

I'm running a Speedpassion GT ESC with an LRP X-11 and Trakpower 3600mah lipos.

I think I got most of that . I pretty sure everything is spining freely. Doesn't hurt to double check though.

Thanks for your help guys.

Say you are just getting back into racing and would like to race one of these. Has anyone put a list of the AE parts needed to build it? I was also wondering if anyone has tried Hotbodies shocks on one?

i think brian kinwald running Kyosho shock on his x-60 not for sure
to prices the stuff need to finish a x-60 x-factory would have everything you
to finish a kit

you should be able to pick a t4 for around 70.00

thing needed
t4 or b4 top shaft
Idler Gear
complete diff.
t4 front shock tower
t4 front bulk head
t4 front arms
t4 carrier 30 degree
i suppose any truck shock would work i like the t4 shock on my i`m running
30# oil all around with silver sping frt. black spring in the rear and it is dailed

after i come back from crcrc race in ohio i`m going to try losi rear carries front to to see if i can run losi quick change rims on it

I took the truck for a run yeterday arvo with the gearing at 21/78, After about 5 mins it was right on 200 °F. I let it cool down and tried 21/81 then fried the motor. (it was an oldish one that I am replacing anyway)

Are you guys running motor heatsink/fans? I'm not, how much do they help?

The older motor was probably the reason it was overheating. It was probably going bad to begin with. Like I said, others have run that gearing with no problems.

Alex does run fans but only because he runs 17.5 at bigger events and gearing is everything with that motor. To get better gearing, we needed to keep the motor cooler. We run 2 25mm fans on a custom mount.

We have not needed them on any other motor. I don't run them on my 17.5 equipped X-60 but I'm not as fast as him. He does not really need them on the faster motors but they are there already so...
